SOURCE: FAT32 to NTFS results in HDD failure

Your partition is now corrupt which may or may not be related to your hard drive being physically bad (though most like is a bad drive). You can MAYBE retrieve data from it if you take it to a data recovery specialist or get the proper hardware to hook the drive up to a working desktop/laptop and obtain data recovery software like Ontrack Data Recovery.

SOURCE: acer aspire 5100 nfltr is missing error

The best way to cure this problem is to install a new copy of windows xp. You have ntldr missing error, that means the problem is with the os loader. If you choose to reinstall os then please try to repartition and reformat your hdd.

You can find the drivers for your laptop at

SOURCE: converting from analog sound to digital to support Digital BA735 Speakers

Monday, January 5, 2009

The only steps the tech made, I was looking over his shoulder, was to go to "Control Panel", "Sounds and Audio Deives", "Volume" tab, under device volume "Advance", "Play Control" "Advanced" and then put a check mark in the box for "1 digital output only". That solved our problem. Hope it will work for you.

  • Make sure you have the distribution disc of your IBM Thinkpad
  • Make sure you have valid key for your XP
  • Boost up with the XP disc
  • Occasionally one may need to change the boost up sequence of the CMOS. Select boost up from CD. This would prevent the machine from boosting up from the hard drive
  • Choose install the machine would format your hard drive by then
  • Decide the partioning size if you are familiar with. Otherwise hit enter key to choose the default setting.

What format should I chose to grab it to a PC?

This will depend on which type of computer and operating system you have
if you are referring to formatting your hard drive to a specific format file system NTFS or FAT choose the Ntsf file system is more secure Ntfs is more powerful than Fat or Fat32 and includes features required for hosting Directory as well as other important security features . You can use features such as Active Directory and Domain - based security only by choosing Ntfs your file system Its easy to convert Partitions to Ntfs . The set up programs conversion makes it easy whether your partitions used Fat or Fat32 or the older version of Ntfs .This kind of conversion keeps your files intact (unlike formatting a partition). If you do not need to keep your files intact and you have a FAT or FAT32 partition, it is recommended that you format the partition with NTFS rather than convert from FAT or FAT32. Formatting a partition erases all data on the partition and allows you to start with a clean drive.

hope this helps you

What is the difference between ntfs & fat

This are the difference between the two.

File Allocation Table (FAT): A file system used by MS-DOS and other Windows-based operating systems to organize and manage files. The file allocation table (FAT) is a data structure that Windows creates when you format a volume by using the FAT or FAT32 file systems. Windows stores information about each file in the FAT so that it can retrieve the file later.

NTFS: An advanced file system that provides performance, security, reliability, and advanced features that are not found in any version of FAT. For example, NTFS guarantees volume consistency by using standard transaction logging and recovery techniques. If a system fails, NTFS uses its log file and checkpoint information to restore the consistency of the file system. In Windows 2000 and Windows XP, NTFS also provides advanced features such as file and folder permissions, encryption, disk quotas, and compression.

Gateway MFATXSTLKTH 300SE WITH XP Home

Sorry, Gateway's site requires serial number input to determine the original factory configuration.
You can access their records here;
and see a review of the 300SE from back in the day here
I would have thought XP was installed NTFS, but without the serial number I couldn't check very easily.
Please also see FAT & NTFS and FAT vs NTFS for a primer on the two file system that may help you decide which to choose if you are reinstalling XP on your system.

If you need further assistance please post back with a comment to this thread. If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take a moment to kindly rate this post....thanks!

I want convert ntfs to fat 32

the convertion from ntfs to fat32 will result in loss of all data in the drive (all data from desktop,my documents, installed programmes.......). You can do this using your windows disc . Just set the primary boot device to be cd-rom in the bios, boot with windows cd in drive, then the installation will guide you to the insallation of a fresh copy of windows (there you can select the required file system).it is recomended to continue with ntfs
