Universal remotes are not compatible with any Coby TV. You can get a remote directly from Coby:

I had a 32" Coby that did the same thing, turned out to be a defective main board. The main board wasn't sending the 3.3v signal to wake up the power supply. In my case I sold the tv for parts because it wasn't cost effective to replace the main board. It sound like your main board

Contact Coby customer service by phone if possible to get the info--they likely will be standard ones that can be easily purchased locally.

This requires some care---set will have to be laid face down--the screen unit or display panel is EXTREMELY fragile---the set must be laid down so the entire frame around the screen is supported and no pressure is exerted on the actual screen! One wrong move or downward pressure can damage/destroy the screen.
The base is attached with several bolts that come with the set--exact length and thread type is critical. They may all be same or different lengths. Line them all up and tighten with hand--snug them down evenly with a tool---NO downward pressure on screen when doing this.
If have lost or do not have the bolts contact the maker who will tell you size, thread type and number of bolts.
Carefully when done lift set upright.

You'll have to replace the back light. On most sets it's easy to do. download a service manual off the internet and it will show you how to replace it.
