Installing the print cartridges
Follow the instructions below to install the print cartridges:
CAUTION: Do not touch the print cartridge ink nozzles or copper contacts. Touching these parts will result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections. Do not remove the copper strips. They are required electrical contacts.
Remove the print cartridge from its packaging and carefully remove the plastic tape from the copper strip.

With the power on, open the printer's top cover. The cradle moves to the center of the printer.
Hold the print cartridge so that the copper strip is on the bottom.

Insert the cartridge into the cradle at a slight upward angle until you feel resistance.

Firmly push the cartridge into the cradle. You will hear a snapping sound when the print cartridge is correctly positioned. The print cartridge fits securely in its cradle.

Close the top cover.
Calibrate the printer for optimum print quality.

Make sure you install the correct type of KODAK Ink Cartridge for your printer. Currently we offer two types of ink cartridges (10 Series and 30 Series). Installing the wrong type of ink cartridge may result in this error. You will need to install a new, correct type of KODAK Ink Cartridge. NOTE: For more information, see Which ink cartridges to buy for all-in-one printer.
If you are using the correct type of KODAK Ink Cartridge, reinstall the color ink cartridge.
Wait until the printhead is idle and silent, then pinch the latch on the color ink cartridge with your thumb and forefinger and lift it out of the printhead.
Install the color ink cartridge back into the printer, making sure to press down on the thumb tab until it clicks into place.
Close the printer access door. For printers with LCDs, follow the instructions on the LCD screen. For more information on installing ink cartridges, see the Extended User Guide for your printer. Review Maintaining Your Printer - Replacing ink cartridges.
If the error continues, restart your printer:
Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
Wait five seconds.
Turn on the printer.
If the error continues, and you have extra, new KODAK Ink Cartridges on-hand, try to install a new ink cartridge (or a set of new ink cartridges).
Cleaning the ink cartridges with the HP Printer Toolbox
Click Start .
Click Settings .
Click Printers .
Right-click the icon of the printer in use.
Click Properties .
Click the Services tab.
Click Open the HP Photosmart Toolbox or Service this device.
Click the Device Services tab. This tab does not display in Windows XP; proceed to the next step.
Click Clean the Print Cartridges .
Follow the onscreen prompts.
Manually cleaning the ink cartridges
Turn the printer on and lift the top cover.
After the ink cartridges have moved to the center of the printer, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
Remove the ink cartridges and place them wide side down on a piece of paper.
Prepare a clean, foam-rubber swab or a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water.
Locate the copper-colored circuitry strip on the back of each cartridge.
Clean the copper-colored strip with the dampened swab or cloth. Do not wipe the nozzle end of the cartridge or touch the nozzle plate.
Clean the carriage contacts on the back wall of the ink cartridge carriage with a damp foam-rubber swab or lint-free cloth. Use a dry foam-rubber swab or a lint-free cloth to remove moisture from the contacts.
Cleaning the ink cartridge cradle
Assume an eye level position with the HP Photosmart printer.
Locate the ink cartridge cradle.
Using clean, moistened swabs, wipe the underside of each wall of the carriage where fibers may collect and come in contact with the paper. Repeat until no ink residue is seen on a clean swab.
Reconnect power cord when finished cleaning.
When finished cleaning the ink cartridges and the cradle, print a test page.
Try unplugging the ac adapter from the printer the leave if "off" for 30 sec. After that, power "on" then try again, if it doesnt go to the center, try unplugging the ac adapter again then connect after 15 sec w/ the access door open once you see the carriage pass the center try unplugging the adapter again. If after doing this the carriage is still jammed call tech support at 1 800 421 6699
