Question about Ace Hardware InSinkErator Badger 5, 1/2 HP Garbage Disposal

1 Answer

New Badger 5 insinkerator garbage disposal just installed 3/4 hp

I just installed this and followed the directions to a ''T'' however; when I turned it on the first time it started smoking!! The base of it gets pretty warm. I attached a power cord to it (according to directions) and I plug it into a wall outlet. The smoke is coming from inside the disposal, not the cord.

I have A 1988 Virago 1100 With Cobra Mufflers and The Carbs Are Jetted with A cobra I stage Kit And The Fuel Air Mix Screws are new It Cranks And Runs But Black Smoke Is Comming out of the Pipes Whats

Sounds like you need to take it to a shop that kinda knows what they are doing. If they have problems they can call cobra themselves. As a shop the aftermarket companies are usually pretty good about helping out since most of their product is sold or installed in aftermarket shops. With that being said. I would start by dropping the clips up one notch and see how that works. By sliding it up one notch it should run a little leaner . If it's better but doesn't cure the problem then go up one more. If it does clear up the black smoke then there you go. Generally cobra will tell you in the directions what common jets to install. They even have a section for higher elevations as well. If not in the directions they usually do on their website. Hope this helps a little.

My car started to smoke it smelled like the antifreeze burning the temp went way up and heard a noise when i turned the motor off i saw a big puddle of antifreeze where my car was did my head gasket blow...

Hi Mike,

If it only overheated, there's a chance it was the water pump. Did you find the leak?

BUT, if any of the following occurred:
  • White smoke out the tail pipe
  • Loss of power
  • Oil in the coolant
  • Coolant in the oil
  • Will not start
You may have Head gasket trouble.

Safety first: Eye Protection, control the area, etc

To find out, run a compression test on all cylinders.

pull the plugs and turn it over, looking for coolant to shoot out

If you don't have the equipment, based on your symptoms, try this:

  • Open the hood
  • Take off the radiator cap
  • Make sure it has water in it (no anti freeze necessary
  • Have any bystanders (AND PETS) clear the area.
  • Get in and turn it over a few times.
If the head gasket is blown, water will shoot out of the radiator like a Las Vegas Fountain just from turning it over. You won't know which cylinder, but that won't really matter, will it?

I have my fingers crossed for you.

Best of luck

My trimmer will start but it then smokes and will shut off after a minute or so like it is overheating? I can't restart it for a while. Any suggestions?

Sounds like your mixing too much oil with the gas and that is causing your smoking problem.
As for it not running very long I suggest you follow the directions below.

Check your fuel filter in the fuel tank, if you have one.
It may need replacement or cleaning.
Also check your fuel tank for debris/trash and clean it out if necessary.
If the mower/weedeater is over a year old, then I recommend that you buy
and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will get hard
and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
Sounds like you will need to clean the carburetor or replace your carburetor
internal rubber parts like the diaphgram and O rings.
Be sure to use compressed air to blow out all the fuel and air passages.
Be careful when blowing out the passages, because there are sometimes small
rubber type seats in the bottom of some of the passages.
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor or using starting fluid
and letting it run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of
the jets, but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
Keep in mind that the float for the carburetor must be level when you go to
reassemble the carburetor or follow the instructions you get with the
carburetor kit.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, you will first need
to lightly seat the jet screws.
But before you lightly seat the jet screws count the number of turns it takes
to seat the jet screws from their original position.
Be sure to mark the turns down on a piece of paper.
That way when you put the jets back in, you know to lightly seat them first
and then turn them back out to their orginal position before you started.

7Hp OHV Briggs & Straton Craftsman Front Propelled Smokes

Sounds like it is the valve seats. However normally it will stop smoking after is runs for a while if that is the problem. Does it run good? Because if it isn't the valve seats then it is the rings. Or a big scratch in the cylinder wall. Then most of the time it will loose compression. If it isn't smoking real bad then you can get an additive to put with your oil that will make it stop, maybe? It is about ten dollars and you can get is at most autoparts stores. It will just take a couple ounces of it. Follow the directions for how many qts of oil you have. After you change the oil in the motor take a magnet and run it through the oil and see if there is pieces of the rings in it.

Every time I turn on the calculator, it gives me this message: Waiting... Please install operating system now after a while, the screen changes to: ERROR! Press any key to turn unit off. Then turn unit...

Read the following from the TI knowledge Base. Hope it helps

Reinstalling the OS fot the TI84Plus

How do I correct the Error Waiting...Please Install Calculator SoftwareNow message on my TI-83 Plus family or TI-84 Plus family calculator?

If an operating system (OS) update fails or is interrupted, the calculator will be in an inoperable state with the message Waiting...Please install calculator software now.The most common cause of a transfer being interrupted is updating the operating system on a calculator with low batteries. Users will need to use the TI Connectivity cable and the TI Connect to send the operating system to the calculator. Make sure to have the latest version of TI Connect installed on the computer.
In order to install the software please follow these steps:
1. Connect the TI Connectivity cable between the computer and the calculator.
2. Click on Start >> Programs >> TI Tools >> TI Connect >> TI OSDownloader
3. Follow the on-screen directions to reinstall the calculator's OS.
If the message "Error! Press any key to turn unit off. Then turn unit back on." appears on the graphing calculator, quickly, remove one battery from the calculator and reinstall it while the transfer is taking place.

2001 1500 4.3L did intake job cant get to start right

ok there is no way to physicaly time the engine with a light. you need to bring #1 cylinder to TDC then install dist. mark contact for ign wire #1 on cap outer as accurately as possible. then mark dist. base with same mark. allign rotor with mark and tighten clamp. assemble and fire make sure fireing order is right, cap is stamped on top. the exact way to set is with a scanner, cam(dist.) sensor and crank sensor need to bolth read #1 TDC at 0 degree advance and tighten clamp, computer takes over from there. be as accurate as possible, if done right it will run, if engine light flashes, your too far off try to bump a tick either way and have a tech set for you with a scanner. best of luck!

Brand new husqvarna 445, won't start

Try not giving any throttle when first starting. The newer trimmers are this way many times. (Maybe the newer chainsaws are this way now.)You prime the carburetor, set the choke and pull, but don't throttle until it runs for 10 or 15 seconds.

Hard starting smokes white like gas is getting into cylinders

White smoke in a small engine is oil. Oil in the cylinder will create too much pressure for the engine to achieve compression. Make sure the engine is not getting fuel into the oil and thinning the mixture (literally smell the oil... gasoline and oil smell nothing alike, if it smells like gas, it is). If this is the case, the carb is leaking fuel into the engine, thinning the oil and causing the oil to leak past the rings into the cylinder head, through the valves and, from there, into the exhaust to burn off. Black smoke indicates a direct fuel issue in a small engine, white is oil based.
