Furnace wont stay on

I have a 12 yr old Goodman oil furnace that wont stay on. I just replaced the ingnitor and wondering if it needs some type of adjustment. It was operating fine, however until we got oil and my wife decided to run the unit, so I am wondering if sentiment got into the nozzle. The nozzle is new, however I had that replaced by a tech. Is there a guide to show how to access the nozzle to find out if it is dirty.

Understanding it's dangerous I did push the reset several times jamming more oil into the system. The furnace will operate all day, however will not start again automatically once it has cooled down overnight, because we also heat with wood and allow the therm to drop to 60 and generally speaking the wood stove will keep the temp above 60.

The filter has very little time on it and was changed at an earlier service, however probably has 100 gallons run through it.

The problem is; the furnace won't come on with out a manual reset. After one reset; It will run long enough to start the blower and then shuts off.

If I press the reset multiple times it will start, smoke up the house from the burn off and keep going for the rest of the day. It seems once its primed enough it will stay on. Even when it shuts off once it reaches the desired temperature and start back up automatically, however if its left off overnight it goes back to the problem of having to manually restart.

We have had several techs come out and they have been shady characters, or unreliable. One of which tried to convince us that our furnace needed replacement, but it didn't. The other repair company kept blowing off their appt's. We are hoping to become more knowledgeable, as it seems in our area we get shotty service, or worse.

Hope this information is helpful and thank you for your reply.

Hello, if the burners light but do not stay on for more than 10 seconds, I would clean the flame sensor. The flame sensor is a metal rod that is on the opposite side of the Igniter, sometimes it gets coated by oxidation and does not sense the burner flame and shuts the Furnace down. To clean to kill power to tje furnace, remove flame sensor and clean with a steel wool, then reinstall and start Furnce back up. If this does not work then most likely the Igniter is too weak to ignite the gas and will have ro be replaced.

Hello, The first thing you need to check with a multimeter is if you are getting 24 volts between the R AND C terminal on the intergrated control board. If not than the transformer is blown and needs to replaced or the fuse on the control board has blown and will need to be replaced. When check for 24 volts at the R and C terminal make sure the door switch is pushed in, u can just use electrical tape to temporaily hold the switch in. If you are getting 24 volts at R and C and notthing continues to run than the intergrated control board is most likely the cause and must be replaced.

Goodman GMP Furnace problem. Original problem is

Good one! Is the flame getting to the flame sensor within the few seconds? Maybe a good cleaning of the burners or flame tray would help. 1.3 ma is enough for the flame rod to tell the board to stay on. Re-do all the ground connections both at the board and furnace cabinet to be safe. Check the polarity of the power going to the furnace. What are the chances the second board is bad?

Goodman furnace motor is dirty

The blower motor, squirrel cage (fan) and its housing can be removed as a whole part. Disconnect the wiring harness to the motor, remove the ground wire. Look for a couple of screws that mount the blower housing to the furnace. they will 5/16 head size and usually be at the top. The bottom slides into a metal notch on the frame. With a little work and maybe a few cuss words, pull the whole thing out. A shop vac or air compressor will remove the dirt. Some dirt may be determined to stay, so a stiff bristle brush may be needed. Replace in opposite way you removed it. If the whistle remains, check the duct work and metal panels, and anywhere there is a gap or tape. This may be the cause of the whistling noise, but cleaning the vent holes in the motor and the fan blades cant hurt and will help the efficiency of the system and increase the life of the equipment. If the whining is the little vent motor up top, then try oiling with a thin turbine type oil, or just replace it, as they are relatively cheap. If you are asking about cleaning the internal parts of the motor, I wouldn't recommend doing that. If there is an oil port on the motor housing, use the oil I recommended earlier. Most likely it has a sleeve bearing not a roller type, so that's about it.
