Check for a stuck/jammed switch, press each switch if one doesn't make a normal click sound or it doesn't move at all that's your problem.
If that's not it check the owners manual for how to reset the receiver (not all manuals will tell you how to reset it) Another way to reset it is to short the memory cap, but that is better left to a tech.

Your unit's micro IC, is in need of a reset.Un-plug the unit and locate the semi large yellow capactor on the main board. (r-h side facing front) Now flip the unit over and look thru the vent holes in that same area and locate the two solder pins. Short them out with a thin metal object, like a straightened out paper clip or wire, and turn it over (just discharge the cap and remove your wire) this will default all settings and restore normal operation.

I have exactly the same problem! Sometimes when I turn the input dial it comes back on but this time it is out for good. I have tried re-wiring and unplugging etc. nothing seems to work.

" display mode OFF"
You can select the display mode for the front display of the SR7001.To select this mode, press the DISPLAY on the remote control or the front panel. When this button is pressed, the display mode is switched in the following sequence.Input Mode ? Surround Mode ? Auto display OFF ? Display OFF ? Normal Mode ? Input Mode Normal Mode: Displays the selected input function. If the function has been renamed using the Function Rename feature (see page 26), the renamed name appears on the display. Input Mode: Displays the input mode set via the Function Input Setup feature (see page 25). Surround Mode: Displays the status of the selected surround mode. Auto Display Off mode: The display is off. But, if you make a change to the unit such as the input or surround mode, the display will show that change, then go back to off after about 3 seconds. When changing the volume, it is not displayed. Display Off mode: The display is off completely. Note: • Only the DISP indicator will be illuminated on thefront display in display off condition

Read this procedure to possibly fix the remote:
They also sell replacement remotes.
Zoom in on the picture of the original remote provided on the site (or look at your own) and get the actual remote model number.
or check eBay: search for "(model of the device or the remote) remote", check the 'include description' box. Usually cheaper than the vendors.
