Question about Westinghouse 22" Widescreen LCD Flat Panel Monitor

1 Answer

Too sensitive buttons?

My monitor which I purchased a little under a month ago works perfectly... at least it did for the first two weeks, now it brings up the volume controls like I pushed the button(I don't know what it's called but it's like touch-screen but it's on the side like regular buttons, I'm guessing the buttons are motion sensitive) it's set to max but not plugged into my PC because I have surround sound and the monitor's own speakers don't sync right with my regular speakers. When I push the menu button to turn the OSD off it goes away for a few seconds or so then returns with pretty good regularity. It isin't doing it RIGHT now, but if anything causes the monitor to shake even slightly it happens, so I was just wondering if this was a malfunctioning unit or a larger problem others are having.

I think I may have fixed the problem by moving the speakers to cover the buttons(guessing it saw changing light patterns or limited motion sensor over distance????) Been problem free for 7 or 8 hours now, appreciate the advice though, I will return it and see what happens.

My Westinghouse Monitor mo#L1916Hw keeps popping up the "OSD" every 5 seconds for no reason, I've read the owners manual but there is nothing that addresses this problem, it is very annoying, even after hitting the exit button it will still pop up and stay on the screen for approx 3-5 seconds, I'm not sure how to disable the OSD so that it doesn't do this anymore. I purchased the monitor in Sept 2008 and never had this problems until approx 6 months ago. Any suggestions would be nice.

Yes I too have the same problem. When we bought the monitor last fall the volume screen came up about ten times then all seemed to be fine. I figured it was a glitch but then it came back again recently. After moving the monitor all around and moving everything around it with some degree of success I installed a short piece of elecrical tape over the side buttons. I never shut off the monitor or use the volume controls on the side anyway and for now this does seem to be working.

i have the exact same problem, and while i was reading this my friend insisted i covered the buttons with my hat. so i did. after a few seconds the volume control went away. so later im going to try putting black tape over the buttons to see if it solves the problem.

You're monitor problem is interesting.Did you install any software which might have come with the monitor? If there was such software, then is it possible that certain keystrokes might be launching this menu?
If this is not the case, then it is quite likely that you have a faulty unit. Since it appears that you are dissatisfied with the problem and since the unit is so new, the best option is to return for exchange NOW. If you can't return to the place of purchase then contact the manufacturers website and submit a problem report with the intention to obtain an RMA.

If it was purchased new, you should be able to get a replacement under warranty. If not, here is a link to the owners manual to troubleshoot it. Check for any frayed sections of the cable around the transducer or damage/cracks on the transducer itself.

No - the buzzing you're hearing is probably the inverter transformer. Its' purpose is to generate high voltage to turn on the backlight to display the image on the screen. The monitor should still be under manufacturers warranty since most of them are a year. Have it repaired or replaced.

Monitor turns off after 2secs power light on

Oct 23, 2009- This is how it went for me..I have a Samsung SYNCMASTER2.gif 2053BW. I leave my monitor on and let it hybernate when I shut down PC. I'm 3 months outside of my warranty. Two weeks ago something started happening. I boot PC and video doesn't come up for 10 minutes, and when it came up it worked perfect. VC/Monitor/MB?? It became 20 minutes and ...now..I have the analog/digital box in top left screen, power light on monitor flashing, no menu available on monitor and none of the other buttons work for anything. I test the monitor on Laptop..nothing(same as above)..I break out the old(working) monitor from deep within the closet. Plug it in and I'm up and running. So...

HOW TO OPEN A SYNCMASTER 2053BW

NO SCREWS!!! Assuming that the stand mount has been pulled out..The seam around the screen frame is where you start. The frame has the prongs, the back cover has what the prongs slip over. The frame is coming off first! I got the side to open by finger, then used a small standard screwdriver to pry ever so gently(lifting frame from rearcover). Leave the power button assembly on the frame, pull wire only a little to relax any tension..you get about 3/4" in extra taped to panel. The hard part is done.;) Still holding the frame...Now lift the panel (where the power button assembly wiring goes under panel) with the power housing that is under it as a whole and you will see where the powerbuttonassemble detaches.Remove frame. Now..holding edges of panel into back cover, lift and flip the whole thing over and place panel face down on a perfectly flat surface..a towel on my desk works. Lift and remove back cover.Your now looking at the back of the board housing. The ribon is simple, on the panel end of the ribon, squeez the outer clips together and slide it away against the panel..The secondary tin plate is removable, two clips super close to where the sets of wires come around the housing and into the panel.Unhook the 4 plugs(pink inside/blue outside)...Now lift the power housing off of the panel. The big board has the power. One screw to remove a ground plate first. Two screws to remove power board. Pics from phone.56ec44b.jpg

Reassemble but DO NOT re-snap the frame into place....yet... Test it! There is a reason the caps got hot in the first place, therfore it has a good chance of happening again. This is not fullproof...but.....mine has been on now for close to 6 hours with no glitches whatsoever. So I have resnapped mine back together. I hope you can too. - I must also add that this is one of the best producing monitors I have ever seen...in 60hz. The clarity is top notch. If you purchase one get the extended warranty. FYI...I paid $4.00 for those caps. It sounds like this is very common with SyncMasters.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee leaking coolant and power steering fluid

Just a heads up, $10 bucks will buy you a seal kit for the P.S. pump. I topped mine off for a couple months, then the oring on the high pressure line (from pump, front center) blew and dumped the reservoir in a matter of miles.

The line can be a stinker to get off, recommend driving the car for a few minutes to heat up the pump a little. Don't forget the 20MM wrench.

If you know how to open it up and get to the power supply you will find three capacitors 2-820uf and 1-330 @ 25vdc 105o.they will have puffed up tops replace them. FYI the monitor has a 3 year warranty.

My monitor turns itself off

If it's only a few months old then send it back under warranty.
The fault you have is the inverter circuit.

Hope that helps. =)
