Question about Mr. Coffee ISX23

Open Question

Mr Coffee SRX 20 will not pump water

I have tried cleaning with straight vinegar and vinegar and water. Some scales were produced in ~ 1 tbsp water, but eventually, it fails to pump. This is an old coffeemaker, but has been quite adequate for periodic weekend use. I thought that I should pause here for consultation instead of disassembling! Your thoughts? Thank you, MaryT

SOURCE: leaks while filling

Mine just leaked and it turned out to be one of the rubber tubes from the reservoir to the heating element under the pot came off. I removed the 4+2 screws of the base plate, reinstalled the tube & since there are no clamps holding on the tubing, I used thin stainless wire double wrapped and snugged to ensure the tubing stays on this time. Note, there is wiring in the area. Make sure you do not short out any of the electronics with the wire if you chose to use it.

Coffee stopped brewing well, coffee now brews weak. Even with increased coffee grounds. Clean button won't turn off. Even after 2 clean cycles.

Chances are there are built up scales inside the brewer. Are you using regular water? If so, you may have to descale it. Look for a food safe descaling chemical which you may have to flush with clean water in several cycles. Another solution is to take it apart and clean it. Problem is, you have to be skilled to do this.

Machine is clogged and water will not drip through to make espresso. the steam frother works sort of

Did your User Manual have a section that tells you how to clean out mineral deposits and hard water scale? Usually, this is done by filling the resevoir with white vinegar and then turning the machine ON for 30 seconds then OFF for 5 minutes. Keep repeating the ON-OFF cleaning cycle until all the vinegar is pumped into the carafe. If the machine needs further cleaning. Repeat the process until the scale and mineral deposits are dissolved. Finally, flush the machine with a full resevoir of clean water and run a normal BREW cycle. Should work like new.

My Mr Coffee ADX20 coffee maker does not boil the water through any more. I would assume the main heating unit is bad. How do I replace the main heating unit?

You might have scale that formed on the heating element. This happens to all heating elements due to impurities in the water. I would try cleaning it a couple times to see if it helps first! Clean the mineral deposits from your coffeemaker every 80 brew cycles if you have soft water and every 40 cycles if yours is hard water. About once a month is good for a coffee maker. Pour four cups of undiluted white vinegar in the water reservoir. Place a paper filter into the removable filter basket, close the lid. Go through a brew cycle with decanter in place. Turn the coffeemaker OFF after THREE cups of vinegar have entered the decanter. Let set 30 minutes. Turn machine on and let rest of vinegard run through. Discard filter and vinegar solution, rinse. If this doesn't help the element is probably bad and from everything I have heard Mr. Coffee doesn't have't replacement parts for consumers. They only sell to "Authorized" repair shops. With that being said I have heard if you call the Service number 1-800-672-6833, and talk to an human operator, not the machine, they have sent out new units because of this problem. If that doesn't help Coffee makers are usually throw away items, I have recently purchased a pretty nice Mr. Coffee one from Costco for $30. Kohl's had one the looked a little different but all the same features for $55. So for like $30 you can get a new one, where if you could find an heating element it would be probably around $20. Just saying!

mcdevito75 here, Your Mr. Coffee may need cleaning, here"s how, Fill the resovoir with white vinegar, cycle thru the machine 3 times, half way thru the 3rd time stop 1/2 way thru and turn off machine for 30 minutes, then recycle. After that rinse your Mr, Coffeee by cycleing thru fresh water each cycle takes another resovoir of fresh water to get rid of the vinegar. If this is not the problem, maybe the pump is shot. Contact Mr. Coffee by phone or online at Mr. or replace the machine.

What can I use to clean my Mr. Coffee 12-cup coffee maker?

The standard way to clean a coffeemaker is t run white vinegar through it then run straight water through it. That is one of the few things that will clean without leaving a residue. Good luck.

try running straight vinegar thru it . Sounds as if the water feed tube is clogged, with scale from unfilted water, try that and see if the vinegar comes thru. If the vinegar flows thru it the water will too

Coffee not tasting good

To make the self-clean light go off, just unplug the coffeemaker for longer than 20 minutes. As far as not tasting right, did you try flushing the vinegar out of the coffeemaker using plain water, or water mixed with 1 tbsp lemon juice per cup? Also, get rid of your current charcoal water filter - after time, it will disintegrate, and your coffee will have a hint of charcoal.

I assume your coffe maker used to produce more coffee for each use. Roughly 6 ounces per large cup, and now is only making 3 oz. cups.

If your coffee maker is sputtering and not able to "suck" enough water to fill your cups of coffee it is most likely due to cavitation caused in the little pump due to a stoppage, which is most likely lime or scale buildup somewhere in the pump line.

To fix it, don't take your coffee maker apart. Get a bottle of distilled white vinegar, and pour it straight into the empty water resevoir. Press brew with no coffee pod so you are just running the vinegar through the system. Pour the vinegar out of the cup and back into the resevoir. Add some ice to cool it off. Repeat about 10 times. This should clear out the toughest lime scale clog.

After you notice the cups are filling full of water, Replace the vinegar with fresh water. Run about 5 or 6 cups of fresh water through the system to get rid of the vinegar.

Make coffee/tea/whatever.
