Simply an RJ45 cable connector. Routers are broadband and a dialup modem will not work. You need an ethernet card. They are cheap and easy to get. Steve

My router is connected, but there is no internet connection.

Do you already have a working internet connection and you are trying to add this to give your home wireless?

If that is the case, then can you access the internet without using this router? Just plug the rthernet cable from your cable modem into your laptop/PC and see if you get a connection. If you do then the fault lies within the router.

Are you connecting the cable from the modem to the YELLOW ethernet port on the back of the Linksys? This is where the internet connection must go.

Check power - does it light up and go through a startup sequence? Are any lights flashing?

Ethernet lights not lighting

Make sure your ethernet cable is not damaged in any way. If you have a secondary ethernet cable somewhere around your house then try it with that. Ethernet lights light up only when there is a power signal coming from either side of the cable. Most likely one of the wires inside the cable got damaged and is not letting the router know that it has something plugged into it.

If you dont have a secondary ethernet cable then switch the cable that comes out of your internet modem into the router with the suspect cable and see if you get a internet light on your router. You can further test this by directly plugging into your computer and see if it gives you a connection of some sort. If your computer continues to say that there is no network cable plugged in then you have a bad cable.

I can't install the router from the CD to my computer, I follow the steps, but when it says please wait reconizeing your router, it want reconize it says check the ethernet conections.

You don't need to install a wireless router. unplug your modem, connect the ethernet cable from your modem to the port on your router labeled internet or WAN, and then plug in the modem and router. Connect your computer to the network and you should be online.

Unable to connect to internet through Linksys WRT160N router. Can unplug it and internet is fine. Tried power cycling the modem and router. Linksys comes up with all lights flashing and will not...

If I understand your problem correctly, you are able to connect to the Internet when you hook the computer directly to the modem, but not when the router is connected to the modem.
If this is the case, then you need to do a power drain on the modem. Power cycling the modem is not enough to clear the NVRAM of the MAC address of your computer. You have to unplug the power cord of the modem for 15 to 20 minutes in order for the NVRAM to reset and allow the modem to recognize the MAC address of the router.
After the modem has been unplugged for 15 to 20 minutes, disconnect the power cable from the router and then connect router to the modem using the Ethernet cable.
Next with the router power cord still disconnected, plug in the power cord of the modem and allow the modem to sync to the network.
Once the modem is finished with its start-up, plug-in the power cord of the router and let it sync to the network.
After the modem has completed its start-up, it should now be connected to the internet.
Good Luck

Router quite working. Wireless does not work nor

Follow this procedure :
  1. Turn off all components on your network - computer, router, modem, printers and any wifi laptops
  2. With the ethernet cable connected only between the modem and the router TURN THE POWER TO THE ROUTER ON and let it boot up.
  3. Turn on the modem and let it boot up to all lights on.
  4. Connect / boot up any and all other components on your network.
Keep this order handy in case of a power outage. Best of successes!

No internet signal between router and desktop pc.

have you plugged everything in with the modem off and the router off?
have you tried unplugging the linksys for a sec then plug it back in?
also have you checked the pin connection on the plug on both the computer and the router?
what are the lights indicating?
