DC 40 A Canon Camcorder Blank Screen Problem

Hi there,
Just recently I start getting this problem in my Canon Camcorder. As I start the camera and put it in Recording mode it gives the blank screen, however if I change it to view mode it does shows me the recording preview clips.
Any clue about what went wrong with this.

Thanks,

Sanjiv

if 600 sgd is labor only - around 400 usd - you might consider cost of trading up to a newer model ( check ebay for second camera , while you wait for . . . warranty repairs ) ;

SOURCE: Camcorder doesn't record I just see a blank screen with multicoloured vertical lines

It is a manufacturing defect in a chip. Canon is replacing it irrespective of warranty. See below URL:

SOURCE: Recording stopped working

Beleive the CCD has stopped responding. A cheap way to verify this is to point an infrared remote towards the lens and press a key. This will usually provoke a response from the camera even if all else fails, barring a bad pickup device...accordianman

SOURCE: movie recording disabled

I have the same problem.  If you have taken the disk out of the re-corder, then you can no longer finalize the disk...and you will potentially lose the data on the disk.  Their only solution was to take it to a professional media service and see if they could recover it...what a joke...at no point in the manual does it indicate that you cannot remove your disk or face the potential of losing your recording...I lost the recordings of the birth of my son...I will never forgive that...

SOURCE: No image when recording

What you probably have is some kind of condensation issue. This usually happens when the camera is used in places where there's high humidity, low temperature etc., Since you are able to view the pictures that are already taken, I would assume that this is just some kind of sensor issue. Most of the times this can be fixed by leaving the camera ON for about 1hr. This will get the condensation senor to sense everything is back to normal and will power up the viewfinder again.Let me know if it worked so that we can look at other possibilities.

Thanks,
Sai.

HOW I CAN CONECT CANON DC-40 TO MY LABTOP. DO I NEED ANY SOFTWARE TO INSTALL? PLS HELP

If it is a camcorder that requires a disc to record then you must install the software the camcorder came with.If you bought it without the software disc,I recommend looking it up. Or you can try putting the recordabble disc in your laptops DVD player.

Canon Optura 40 playback - only get blue screen - no image, no sound

Try a cleaning tape. Buy a good quality cleaning tape (Panasonic makes one) and remember: cleaning tapes are abrasive so don't overuse it! Overuse can result in the need to replace the rotating drum assy in the camcorder. I'll bet a cleaning tape takes care of your problem.

Cannot transfer from camcorder to computer.

Hi,
make sure you are using 4 pin to 4pin firewire which looks like this:

After connecting,
Switch on the Cam.
Open Windows Movie Maker and import video from device.

Mini DVD will not eject

yes - your warranty will be voided and cost of parts can be unreasonably high , but if your ' do not shake ' display came on repeatedly ? the door switch may have gone out of alignment during a fall : the canon service manual is available only to authorized servicers so a set of quality jeweler ' s screwdrivers would be needed to . . . void the warranty some more but let you open the cabinets to get at the release mechanism ;

Black or blank screen

your older recordings will only play on a pal monitor / tv ; if the camera video is ok now ? your tape heads may be dirty , wearing out - or both ; try a cleaning tape first but - do not rewind cleaning cassettes , or the old grime will be put back on the cleaned heads and guides ;
