Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

Door will not stay down.

Just started to happen. Adjusted the settings on the motor for up and down with no results. Could it be the electric eyes out of alignment?? And if so, how do you get them aligned again??

If it were eyes, doors would open and light bulb would flash ten times. sounds like travel adjustment needed to be peaked.

Someone else can join in, but I think when it only moves that little, it has to be the RPM sensor. It may be installed correctly but the electric eye that "sees" the vanes turn may be dirty. Clean that out. I'll try and add the picture, or try here:

When you can close the door by holding down the wall button it IS the safety eyes or wiring.

If the eyes are mounted to the track. Many times the track wll move as the door closes causing the eyes to move out of alignment.
Watch as the door moves down and see if they need to be adjusted.

If the eyes are not both lit - they are out of alignemnt or have a wiring problem. try adjusting them and see if the lights come on. - if not check the wiring

Hope this helps

My Craftsman garage door opener opens fine. It

It could be closing too far or the sensitivity could be set too sensitive.

Lube the springs, wd-40 rust may be the whole problem.

If the door hits and the opener continues to move until the rail flexes upward and then reverses - probably the travel adjustment.

Does the door close and stay closed if you hold the wall button down constant until it closes? - this would indicate a safety eye problem.

If the door reverses before it hits the floor or just as it hits the floor it could be the sensitivity or if the safety eyes are mounted to the track they could be flexing enough to move the eyes out of alignment.

Hope this helps.

1/2 HHP lift master. the motor acts like something is in the way

I am assuming the door wont close.

Your safety reversing sensors must be connected and aligned correctly before the garage door opener will close. An obstruction in the path of the sensor will also cause your door to not close.
This sensor is an electronic beam, which is sent between two sending and receiving “eyes”. These eyes face each other and are located just inside your garage door. They may need to be adjusted so the beam from the sending eye is properly detected by the receiving eye. Once the receiving eye “sees” the beam from the sending eye, a green indicator light will glow on the top of the eye.

When you push either the remote or the switch at the door, the garage door will go down almost to the bottom and then come back up and the light will blink several times. This does not happen all the time....

Garage door will not stay down it just started .. it looks like the chain is loose could this be the problem

If the main light is flashing 10 times when the door reverses it is a door sensor problem. Make sure they are pointed at one another and that the small light on each sensor is on and not flickering.

If the door reverses but the main light does not flash it could be a bad RPM sensor which is a small circuit board just in front of the motor.

If the door is hitting the floor and then reversing it is traveling too far. On the side of the motor unit you will find the 'down limit' control. Turn this a bit in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover.

Lift-Master GDO goes up, not down

If the door operates freely without any binding, while operating it manually then It would appear that the obstruction sensor mounted across the doors path is ether out of alignment, lens dirty,or malfunctioning

Garage door opened, won't close

If you can press and hold the wall button and the door will go down, you have a photo eye issue. Check the photo eyes at the bottom of the door.
