Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P92 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Power on for file viewing and setup, but not camera or video.....

When I press the power button, it comes on, but only if I have it set to the "Play" button which lets you brows your pictures; or if I have it on "Set Up"

If I switch it to the camera or the video options, it immediately shuts off.

The camera went several months without use, sitting in a drawer. When I tried to use it again, this was the problem I was presented with.

Any help would be appreciated.

    i have the exact same problem; camera only stays in the 'view pictures' or 'set up' mode, as soon as i turn to camera or video thing, it turns off.

    recharged the batteries; still same problem...

  • HALAXWOOD2 May 20, 2009

    Same problem, power on for file viewing & setup only. Shuts down when put on camera or video. Also noted that have a flashing red LED where memory card plugs in. New and/or different batteries make no difference. Since this 1st occured problem has escalated to not coming on for any setting, however LED continues to do a fast flash. Reset button has no effect on camera itself or LED, though LED ceases to flash as long as reset button is held down. Was such a good camera, how could it just up & die for seemingly no good reason?

    ANY HELP OR EXPLAINATION OUT THERE FROM ANYBODY?

Follow up... try going with a different set of batteries all together. i swapped the sony ni-mh batteries with a generic brand of nickel-metal hydride batteries and 'camera' & 'video' mode are working once again.

I have a brand new Go PRo Hero Naked 1080P HD camera. In my initial attempts to familiarize myself with the camera, I noticed 2 things: 1. when I turn on the camera, the default start mode (which is...

You can choose your default power up mode in the settings menu. If it's already setup as F (film), then you're holding the power button too long when turning on the camera (if you hold the power button, it will turn on in the next mode after the default power up mode). Try just quickly pressing the power button - this will remedy that one if your default power up mode is already set to F (otherwise, go into settings menu and change it to F).
A couple of my friends' computers don't have the RAM/video card, or whatever is needed to playback HD footage smoothly. There's a ton of data transferring to playback the HD video/audio, and many computers (especially if they're not new, but even many new ones) aren't up to the task. Try playing it from the camera to your TV. Does it play smoothly? If so, it's the computer. This doesn't effect videos you upload to YouTube, etc, it is just frustrating and annoying that it doesn't play smooth and makes editing slower as well. Check out the support page on gopro's website - they have FAQ's, Troubleshooting, etc... tons of helpful info there. Also, most of us who have used gopro gear for a while now are usually happy to help when we see a question we know something about.

THE CAMERA GOES DEAD VERY SOON WHEN IT TURNS ON. IT HAS GOOD BATTERIES.

Hi, I've scoured the 3 page manual and come up with this.:-
There is nothing wrong with your camera. The camera has a built-in power saving
feature that turns the camera off after 30 seconds of inactivity (default setting) to
conserve battery power. The auto off time setting can be changed in the set up menu.
Changing the Auto Off Time Setting:
1. Set the camera to Camera Mode.
2. Press the Menu button to display the main menu.
3. Press until the Setup is highlighted.
4. Press to enter the Setup submenu.
5. In the Setup menu, press to highlight “Auto Off Time”.
6. Press to enter “Auto Off Time”. Press to highlight the time you want.
7. Press the OK button to save your selection.
Hope this helps

Help

Hi,

Yes and in several methods as below listed. Since your posting refers to a generic problem for all digital cameras and not only an Olympus FE-230, some of the settings may have a different nomenclature or button name.
1. When you download pictures to you PC, rather than copy, select move; or
2. If you want to erase one picture at a time from the camera - press on the power button, then menu button, once menu is displayed, arrow down/up, you will be asked to erase the picture displayed, select yes/no by up/down, then press OK (menu button); or
3. If you want to erase all contents of the memory card of the camera - press on the power button, then menu button, once menu is displayed, arrow right, down to select card, right to select card setup, right to enter card setup, arrow down to select format or erase all, OK. Erase all just erases the files, format erases all and re-initialize the memory card; or
4. Remove memory card from camera and insert into a memory card reader attached to USB of your PC. The memory from the camera will be treated as a removable device and you can view, move, copy, delete/erase, format. This option seems to be most effective in viewing all contents under Windows Explorer with the view setting set to Thumbnail.
5. Connect the camera via the supplied cable to any USB port of your PC. The camera will be treated as a removable device and you can view, move, copy, delete/erase, format. This option seems to be most effective in viewing all contents under Windows Explorer with the view setting set to Thumbnail.

Specifically for an Olympus FE-230:
1. Press the < or > buttons to display the picture you want to erase;
2. Press the trash can button (bottom right);
3. Press the UP button to select [YES], press OK;

or

To erase all:
1. Press the MENU button to display the top menu in playback mode;
2. Select [ERASE], [ALL ERASE], and press OK;
3. Select [YES], and press OK

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
