I recently installed the MP360 English driver for my Windows XP Professional SP2 found at http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0019010.asp?model=
for my printer. I run the setup, it extracts and then starts automatically. Everything seems to run fine, it finishes installing and then it exits. But then, there is no sign of anything being installed. The printer doesn't show up under "Printers and Faxes" in Control Panel and the Scanner doesn't show up in "Scanners and Cameras" either. If I install the MP Toolbox from the Canon website, I get the message "A supported scanner not installed". I also tried to extract the CAB files that come in the driver package and manually install the driver with Windows's Add Printer Wizard, but it still does not work.
Any ideas what could be wrong?

Re: Driver not working
Just as a try- set up a new printer like this
Start/printers and faxes/install new printer
When you get insert CD or select from list
Take Select from list. select then Canon in the makes list and then the model from the model list.
See what you get.
It is possible you will get the printer only and no scanner - I do'nt know,
But try it.

Having researched the device, it was manufactured in 2008. The company referred all tech support to "www.life-works.com". This site is no longer active. The company is SDI technologies, which DOES still have a website, but their product list is only for more recent devices. It appears that, even though this device has a "lifetime warranty", that the company has decided that the lifetime is over. I found an online PDF file for the installation instructions; unfortunately they list the device as compatible with Windows XP SP2. They make no mention of MACs or MAC installation, so I am assuming there is no MAC support for the device.

For a scanner driver it should not matter whether you have XP Home or XP Pro. Most probably there's a simple problem with the disc. You can ask the vendor for a replacement disc, or go to manufacturer's website and find downloadable drivers & software there. However, on the website there may not be the full software set available, as usually scanners come with some bundled extra 3rd party software that cannot be made available online by the manufacturer for everyone to download. The essential thing is to install the drivers properly, the other bells & whistles are not needed, you can use applications either built into the system, or available free online for image scanning and manipulation.
You have to install the software drivers in compatible mode of Windows XP SP2.
Right Click on the setup file----->Select Properties------>Select Compatibility----->Select the "Run in the Compatiblility Mode of Windows XP SP2"------>Also select "Run As Administrator"---->Apply----> OK.
Now reinstall the Printer Software. It will work for sure.
