Proper cleaning of old vinyl record albums

I have a very very large collection of old vinyl record albums. I just purchased a new "usb" turntable to record my albums to the computer. Since my albums are "old" I thought it would be best to clean them before I play them on the new turntable so as not to mess up the needle.

So can I ask you where might be the best place to find a carbon fiber brush?? I had already bought denatured alcohol. Will it be ok to use instead of isopropyl alcohol? I was afraid to put the albums on my new turntable until they were clean as I did not want to get any of the cleaning solutions or dirt on the turntable but it will be ok I suppose. Also you said to turn the platter counter clockwise - do I have the turntable on or off? Will that hurt the turntable forcing it to go in the opposite direction?? Thank you for your help here.

Get yourself a nice carbon fiber brush. Purchase some record cleaner or just get some isopropyl alcohol 90% (it has less impurities). Secure the arm of the turntable so you don't scratch the record and put the record on it. Put some of the cleaning solution on the brush..not the record. Put the brush on the record and turn the platter counter clockwise to work the dirt loose. Check the brush and clean it if need be and repeat. Take the record off and clean the turntable. Flip the record over and repeat the cleaning process. That should do it. Thanks for stopping by and come back if you need more help. If you don't mind, rate my answer appropriately. Thanks.

Best and by far the best way to clean an old album is to hold it under the kitchen sink and rub it with dish washing liquid in a circular motion using your fingers. Be careful not to wet the label. Afterwards use a blow drier with low temp far enough away from the record so as not to warp it. Stick a pencil or ink pin in the center to help hold while doing this. This prevents leaving finger prints after it's cleaned. I've done this for years and nothing will get your records as clean. It really takes a lot of the pops and clicks out. Use an anti static gun afterwards before recording.

Needle jumps on all new vinyl, but plays old records fine. New vinyl plays on other turntables without a problem. Do you have any suggestions?

Adjust the balance force up. This is a counterweight on the back of the arm. For most needles it is 1-2 grams.

Jensen JTA 450 turntable skips?

Try moving the arm up to the end of the vinyl, if it does go till the end of the vinyl then try adjusting your counter weights, a penny will do, if it doesn't go till the end of your vinyl then there's a mechanical problem check any obstruction at the botton of your arm.

Annoying crunching sound devleloped during recording

It sounds like the same problem I had. I solved it by keeping the stylus free of dust by brushing it frequently with a soft camel hair brush..
