Or you might try You will need to connect to another monitor or your television to your computer with the vga lead monitor connection. Click start control panel display change display settings adjust resolution this may vary depending on your operating system You should see a no 1 and a no 2 with detect and identify keep an eye on the screen when you select the number tabs this may vary depending on your operating system when you select the no 2 tab this should be the extended desktop always click apply after making any changes. If you can get an extended desktop your monitor is faulty if you cant get an exended desktop Hope this helps.

Check ALL cables, connections, try another monitor/cable. You didn't provide the Model of eMachine? Does it have a PCI Graphics Card? Reseat Card.

I have a acer.x223w when,it powers up the.screem stays black, n i get a blue blinking light on.the bottom

I disagree with ikkenom only due to the symptom of the flashing blue light. This would indicate to me that the monitor is not getting any display signal and is in sleep mode at least the is what happens on my Samsung monitor. Used to be that they use a two color led in the monitor, green when ON and getting display signal and amber or orange when in sleep mode. I would check the computer by trying a different monitor. If you have a second monitor, great, if not, maybe a friend will let you bring your computer over and try the computer with their monitor. Could also be a display adapter setting. Do you get any change when you first turn on your computer? i.e. Do you get the BIOS or manufacturer screen when first turned on? Also if you disconnect the monitor cable from the computer and power cycle the monitor, do you get a No Signal display for a few seconds before the monitor goes black and the blue light starts flashing?

Let me know what happens with the testing above or if you need further instructions to carry out testing.

Thanks, Jim

Go to Control Panel, (top right View Small Icons). Then look for Power Options. On this page, you'll have the option to leave the monitor on. You should also check "Advanced Power Options". Don't be afraid of the word, "Advanced." It only means "customizeable"

If your mouse isn't waking your monitor, try the keyboard's space bar. I found it works better than the mouse at waking a sleeping computer

The monitor itself is black, and the power light is changing color from green to yellow to orange and flickering.

Hi there!
Changing the monitor light from green to yellow/orange/amber means that the monitor is in power saving mode. Make sure that the video signal cable is properly connected to the back of the monitor as well as to the computer.
Hope this helps.

Monitor was in standby mode, computer was on. Now it shows no signal and when we try using the menu button (2) it flashes white, black, red, green, blue then a teal color.

the monitor is not receiving a signal from the computer which is why the multi coloured bars are showing. Ensure the lead is connected and is connected to the correct port of your computer. If it is connected correctly then either your graphics card is faulty or the lead, or monitor is

It means that your monitor is not getting a signal from your PC. Your monitor is fine though. You will need to plug the video cable from your monitor into the onboard video if you are using a graphics card. If you are not using a graphics card then you will probebly need to get a PC technition to diagnose the problem with your motherboard.

Monitor screen begins as computer is booting up and then screen goes black. Message says there is no signal.

If the power light dims or changes color after the no signal message comes up, that means the monitor went to sleep.
While the monitor is plugged in and on and the computer is also on, Try unplugging the VGA cable from the monitor. wait 30 seconds and then plug it back in o see if the power button light comes back to normal color and the screen flashes on.
If not, then the monitor is not getting a signal from the computer.
If using a desktop computer,Try a different cord or try the monitor on another computer.
If using a laptop, you need to activate the laptop to use an external monitor. That can be done through the display settings, OR, most laptops have a shortcut key feature which usually involves pushing the Fn key and one of the F keys at the same time. The F key may say CRT/lcd or have a picture of a monitor and a screen.
If the power light does light back up and still no picture, There may be an internal issue on the monitor

Dell E171FP Monitor goes black after 2 secs

Hi, I don't think the problem is with your monitor. Your monitor sounds like it's doing exactly what it's supposed to do. The monitor is supposed to turn off if there's no cable attached, which means there's no signal input. When the screen goes black, does the power light stay on and turn orange? or does it go off as well? I would recommend that you lower your screen resolution to 1280x1024 or lower in the Display Properties window, then remove your primary monitor, and connect the monitor to your desktop computer. You should see it light up when connected. The monitor auto-senses when there's a computer attached to the cable and when there's a signal. If it doesn't see a signal, it goes black to save power.
