What you can try first, is just letting it start up for a moment. Best is to leave it for 10-15 minutes, and if it is still like that you can make your own disc to repair your operating system, but for that you need another computer. Which version of WIndows is installed on the computer?

Stucl on system recovery

you could try tapping the keys Ctrl+Alt then Del - this brings up Windows Task Manager. Select the task that says something about System Restore and say OK.
If it fails to come up you will probably have to cross your fingers, and turn off your notebook, and reboot using F8 safe start.

Reinstall windows root system 32 hal.dll

Do a start up repair.

Insert your Windows Operating System disc in the DVD. Reboot your computer and press any key when you see the phrase "Press Any Key to Boot in CD".

Select the start up repair and it should work after the loading process.

I hope this helps.

D610 loop on boot

Hi phatheadrowl,

I see you have a boot issue with your Dell Laptop.

As soon as you see the Black screen before the Dell Logo keep on Tapping f8 then a list will show up select Last known good configuration First, if this does not work follow the below proceeds.

since it is rebooting on its own, we can go an boot into safe mode, to do that once the system is rebooting and you se the dell Logo on the screen keep on tapping F8 a list will show up and we need to select "Safe Mode" , once in Safe Mode it will be windows but all drivers are disable on that point and the video will be different so do not worry, once we are in Safe Mode click on Start, then click on Accessories, click on system tools, then look for system restore then perform a restore on the system to a date when it was working fine or not rebooting on its own on the issue.

And if you have a Windows disc that came with your Dell you run the Recovery Environment and do a Fixboot but if you do not have the Windows Disc Fixboot will not work without a Disc.

I hope this helps.

If you have the Disc please send me a message so I can provide you detail on how to perform Fixboot / fixmbr

Dell latitude e4200 restarts with blue screen

Sounds like the image doesn't have the right drive controller driver included. Could be because the image was created on a different laptop or could be the drive controller is configured differently. You can confirm this from the STOP error code on the blue screen

Go into the BIOS setup (probably F2 at boot) and see if the controller mode is set to AHCI. If so, set it to compatibility or combined(?) and try again.

Either way, if you've installed an image for the wrong hardware, you probably should do a remedial install. Boot from your Windows XP disc and follow the prompts as if you were doing a clean install until you get to the license agreement. At the next screen, it should show you any existing Windows installs and give you a new option to repair. Let this go - it won't touch any user files, just replace all the Windows files with those from the CD. Have your system drivers and service packs handy to tidy up when it's done.

I have an intermittent power-on issue with my Dell E4200. Sometimes it is very hard to turn on - pressing the power button makes the button light up, the fan runs for a few seconds, then the caps lock icon...

Try performing a hard reset on the laptop. Remove the battery and all peripherals connected to the laptop (including the AC adapter). Once everything is removed/disconnected, press and hold the power button for around 15 seconds. This will drain all remaining charge in the motherboards capacitors which usually causes this kind of issue.

Hope this help. Goodluck!

Dell E4200 screen problems

Sure there is its called a TOSHIBA

Dell is the poor mans brand and is poorly made to the poor price!

The lines are caused byt a failing Liquid crystal display gel. A new screen can be purchased from a Dell outlet. But you could be spending money on a bettr unit that is reliable and under warranty. Take a ook at the Toshiba L300 range, very affordable, losts of bells and whistles and much better quality. and about $5-600 on special for introduction to the market. These units are usually in the $900 and over range

E4200 Poor sound quality: no bass whatsoever

How much bass do you expect from a speaker less than an inch in diameter? Have you tried using an external surround sound system? It is unrealistic of anyone to expect stereo polyphonic digital audio from a speaker the size of earphones, unless of course they are earphones, and in that case they are designed to operate at lower volume because they would be on your ears.
