SOURCE: Microwave turns on by itself

You have a shorting keypad. This can be very dangerous and result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it;s not in use, and please do not leave it running unattended.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can usually find Magic Chef parts here.

If not, please reply back with your model number so we can help you.

If you would like to have us do this for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your model number) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

The problem is in the keypad control board, in order to fix this the part alone starts around $100.00 and must be replaced to fix this, also it would be a good idea to get the door switches checked.

That would be a defective membrane keypad.

If it's still available, and you or someone you know might want to replace it, here's a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag in or on the microwave here.

Microwave turns on & control panel is frozen. F2&PAN error codes

You have a shorting membrane keypad. If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and please do not leave it running unattended.

On this model, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame which comes with a new keypad.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame.

That is a simple do-it-yourself job.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number (KHMS155LWH1 without dashes) from the tag on the oven here.

Shuts itself off mid cooking cycle -- as if unplugged; then after 5 minutes or so turns itself back on as if it was just plugged in (forgetting all previous settings)

If you just put the fan blade back on, it will almost certainly fall off again.

The best bet is to slightly rough up the contact area of the shaft with sandpaper and use a little super glue to hold the blade assembly on the shaft, and let it set a few minutes before using it.

I always recommend that you use the hood vent exhaust fan when cooking on the stove top to keep heat, steam, and grease out of the controls.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

Lights dim when microwave runs. if runs more than 3 minutes it turns itself off and then resets after approx 10 minutes. I have had an electician here to see if it were the amps, it isn't.

As long as those lights don't draw too much current, that will probably be okay.

The microwave may consume 1500-2000W (the model number tag or manual will tell you). Add that to the total of the wattage of the lights. Then divide that grand total of watts by 120 (the voltage) and that will give you current in amps that your oven and lamps draw.

Make sure your breaker is rated about 25% above that.

If that holds true, then then I would say your magnetron or high voltage transformer is failing.

If you can post back with your brand and model number I can give you some info on those.
