Not sure which bit to unscrew when trying change battery in onyx50

The flashlight uses 1 AA battery. My guess, you should only have to unscrew the end cap. If you finds it very hard to unscrew the end cap off, it could be from the battery has explode and swollen. MAYBE - I see this happen in my daughters MAG flashlight. DO not keep your flashlight in the car with the batteries installed. The amount of heat in the cars can ruin the batteries in the flashlight.

Tip

Prevent battery damage to flashlight

Any flashlight that uses non-rechargeable batteries, IE... AAA, AA, C, or D batteries. If it is not used on a regular basis and sits for a long time with the batteries still in it, the batteries will leak and damage the flashlight. It is recommended that if the flashlight is not going to be used for long periods of time, that you remove the batteries to avoid leakage into the flashlight. This also is recommended for anything that uses this type of battery. These types of batteries are known leakers.

Batteries got corroded in the flashlight now I can't get it out. How can I get the battery out?

If you can remove both ends of the flashlight, find a piece of pipe that is slightly smaller in diameter than the inside of your flashlight, hold the flashlight body in one hand and the pipe in the other. place the pipe on top of the batteries then strike the pipe on a heavy hard surface that you are not worried about damaging. The blows should dislodge the batteries. Clean the corrosion thoroghly before putting new batteries in

LED Flashlight Battery Drain Problem

This particular flashlight uses a microchip that consumes the power of the batteries, whether in use or not. Loosen the case to where the batteries go in, so there is no contact with polarity. Or just take the batteries out completely and replace them for actual use.

Flashlight

You will not find a warranty on this item that covers you problem. These flashlights are not expensive ($5-10). If you want to fix it yourself do this:

Wear rubber gloves and remove any residue using a paper towel. Scrape off any hardened material with the end of a screwdriver. Now, clean the spring with one of those disposable nail files, sand paper, or a wire brush. After it's clean you can coat the spring in some Vaseline petrol jelly. Next time, take out the batteries when not in use to prevent this from happening again.
