There could be something wrong with the motor,, make sure that
the power cord and foot pedal are securley plugged into the machine
if the machine still hums,,then take the machine back and get
another one.

Are you sure that is the model number? I went to the Singer site, and they don't have it listed.

What makes you think it needs to be replaced? That part only very rarely needs replacement.

What direction does the groove of the needle face

It faces towards the machine. Then there is an adjustment type pin that you need to tighten down with some pliers.

if it's new & under warranty take it back, if it's not under warranty it's best to take it to a sewing machine repair shop

How do you assemble the shuttle hook on singer 5525 sewing machine.

Go to the singer website
Go to the home page
At the bottom of the page look for instruction manual--click on it
It will take you to another page
In the box put the model number (example 5525 ) & click search
They usually have a free download

Yes. If you are using a brand new needle and it is still striking, then it needs some adjustment. Search for sewing machine timing.
