Run4bear,

I need the Operating System version you are using.

Windows what, and is it 32-bit, or 64-bit?

Going with product problem heading -
Toshiba Satellite U205-S5002 as the product, and using Windows 7, 32-bit as an example,

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=SB&os=&category=&moid=1363705&rpn=PLUA0U&modelFilter=U205-S5002&selCategory=2756709&selFamily=1073768663

Click on the Downloads tab.
(Downloads / Support Bulletins / Detailed Specs / etc )

To the right of the bold black subheading -> Refine Search By:
,click on the blue Down Arrow to the right of - All Operating Systems

Click on the O/S you are using. I chose Windows 7 (32-bit).
Now click on the blue Down Arrow to the right of - All Categories
Choose - Sound

There are two files listed;
A) Sound Application
B) Driver Sound

You want the sound driver. (Driver Sound)
Click on the blue title name -
ADI Audio Driver for Windows 7 (32/64) (v6.10.01.6040; 08-28-2009; 5.42M)

Click on Download Now in the red rectangle.
A small window will come up -
Opening driver_audio_adi_TC00192300B.exe

Click on Save File.
A small download window will come up.
Allow the file to fully download, then DOUBLE-click right on the file name.

At the bottom of the next 3 small windows, click on Next, Next, and Finish.
If you are not asked to restart your computer, do so.
Close all windows, go back to your desktop screen.

WinXP:
Click on Start > Turn Off Computer > Restart

Windows Vista and Windows 7:
Click on the Windows logo button, then the small down arrow to the right of Turn Off, and then on Restart.

Driver: Small piece of software that allows the Operating System to communicate with a device.

The audio chipset is the device.
O/S wasn't stated.

[ Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C.
Integrated Circuit,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_circuit ]

Windoze lost the driver to your audio chipset.
That is, lost the Address to the driver file, on the Harddrive.

Windblows; ya gotta love it!

Go to CONTROL PANEL, HARDWARE & SOUND, MANAGE AUDIO DEVICES (Under SOUND). Click on PLAYBACK to see what audio device is installed if any. If necessary, select a device and/or test it.

If no device is present, you need to run a device driver search to find what driver was not installed - Slim Drivers from slimwareutilities.com is free and does a great job at identifying missing drivers. It will usually find the missing driver and help you install it to get sound working on your system.

If installing the proper driver does not help, you may have to use an external (USB) audio plug and only be able to access sounds through headphones or speakers.

Theres no sounds everytime im using media player

1) Go to: Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices > Audio tab 2) Check what's under "Sound playback: Default device" and "Sound recording: Default device". It these fields are grey and non-clickable, then most probably the audio card driver is missing or less probably the audio card itself is broken. 3A) If you have an original CD of your computer, motherboard, or audio card, insert the CD and install the driver from it. 3B) Or alternatively insert the CD and go to: Start > Settings > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > System > Hardware > Device Manager, find any unidentified device in the list, or expand the "Sound, video and game controllers" branch, identify the Audio card > Right click > Update driver... > Install the software automatically > Next 3C) Or alternatively download and install a free driver updater software, e.g. http://www.innovative-sol.com/drivermax/index.htm - let it scan and update all your missing drivers. P.S. These steps mentioned above are for Windows XP, but will be quite similar on other Windows versions, too.

Did you check if there is an audio device in the Device Manager (from the Control Panel -> System) ?
If not, you probably need to install the right audio driver for your computer.

Speakers have stopped working and no sound is there Acer Extensa 4620Z

Check you have Windows Audio service is running or not or else you have muted the volume with mutimedia button available on the Notebook.

In your RUN Prompt, type "services.msc", press "Enter" key.
Scroll down till you reach "Windows Audio" check the "Status" is "statred" and the "Startup type is "Automatic". if not double click and change the startup type to "automatic" and click the start button to start the service.

Check the Sound button in your notebook.if you have muted. Sound can be muted from the computer control panel too.

Go to Control panel---->Click sound and in "Playback tab,Click Properties, in "Devices usuage", Select "Use this Device (enable).Click "OK" twice.

That's it.

Note : If Audio driver is missing the above step will not work.Install the Audio driver if the Audio driver is missing in the Device Manager.

That's it.

Yes goto your control panel, open Sytem and see Device Manager. If there is any icon with yellow color in the list, it means you have missing driver. If you have any missing driver that might be for your audio controller. If so then you have to install the driver for the device. Install the driver and enjoy.

Note: If you don't have driver then Ask Me for that with your sound card manufacturer name and model no.

Thanks
Iqbal
