My Power head on my Dyson Animal DC39 will not stay spinning. Suction Issue?

When pushing the button to turn on the brushes on my power head, the brushes will not get spinning, but if I hold the button in a 'sweet' spot I can get them to rev up. Then it seems to rev to high, then all of a sudden stop. Is there an issue with the power head? Please Help... My Dyson only a month old and I want to love it

There should be a red insert on the right-hand side on the cylindrical bulge behind the brush cylinder. Check that this is moving when you push the button. The red insert should stay pushed in for the brush to rotate. The insert moves in an out as well as rotates in order to lock in the 'in' position. Mine is a little sticky on the rotation and I need to shake the brush head a little in order to get it to rotate and lock.

I had the same problem and fixed it by dismantling the brush and removing the small piece of transparent tubing. It works fine now and the only downside is I now have to keep my thumb pressed on the button if I need it to stop spinning (which I can live with rather than splashing out £60 for a new brush.)

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

The rotating brush bar inside DC39's Triggerhead floor tool should rotate when the vacuum is running, unless you turn it off using the button on the wand handle. Why does my Dyson Dc-39 vacuum have good suction, but the beater bar barley turns?

The beater bar may be clogged with pet hair and other debris. You may have to do some disassembly to get everything working again.

WHEN EVER I PLACE THE SPINNER ON THE VACUUM IT STOPS SPINNING

Hi Linda,

I am sorry to hear you are having difficulty with your DC39 brush bar. The brush bar on your machine is air driven. Generally, if the brush bar stops rotating it is due to an obstruction that is preventing air flow. Please visit the appropriate link below for step by step instructions on locating and removing a blockage from your machine.

US:

UK:

We also recommend inspecting the brush bar to ensure it is free of any debris and washing your filters. If for any reason the recommended trouble shooting does not fully resolve the problem please contact our Helpline to speak with an expert.

Brush keeps shutting off . DC39 Animal Canister.

The belt that turns the rotating brush is loose. Make sure it is on correctly or replace with a (new) tighter belt. This will require you to unscrew a few screws on the bottom & remove the cover. Then remove the roller.

Turbo head on DC39 animal will not spin. I have removed any hair etc caught around the brush but still no spinning..

I have the same problem with my DC39 Animal's brush bar. Im on my 3rd one in 9 months of ownership. The DC39 brush bar is driven pneumatically (there is no electric motor in the brush head) and switched on and off via a suction activated pneumatic ratchet within the brush head. The moving components are actuated by bellows. Ive found that the glue holding the bellows fails stopping the ratchet working intermittently at first and then completely as the bellows comes away completely. At first you can help the ratchet by tapping the brush head - the red ratchet ring can be seen to click round. This, in my opinion, is an inherent weakness of the DC39 design and cannot be easily repaired. The only solution is a new brush head. Luckily Ive got a 5 year warranty and at the current rate I will have got through about 20 brush heads !
