SOURCE: E2 error in smeg dishwasher

e2 is overfill or flooded base.
take the bottom front panel off and see if there is water in it and if so, mop it out. if it reoccurs, then you have a leak.
you will see a float device in the front approx middle and this is what actuates e2. if fault is intermittant, try putting a small weight on this - a washer for example.
if e2 is being caused by overfill and not a flooded base, then the water intake moulding needs replacing

SOURCE: SMEG Dishwasher - Water fill level is too low

Hi, I found your problem stuck here from one year ago.

I will post my solution the same, as reference for you and more users with same problem, apologies.

Re: smeg dishwasher fails to fill with enough water to sucessfully wash. It does put some water in.. but nowhere near enough.

Before checking parts inside the machine, ensure that water is coming from the faucet at the back with regular pressure.

To start check the water level sensor.

This is usually a floater sensor located on a side inside the dishwasher.

Check if water level is working properly, if the floater is getting stuck then that is the problem.

If the water level is OK, then the responsible is usually the inlet valve, or clogged inlet lines.

From description it looks more like a faulty water level.

Hi our dw 1612 integral dishwasher has thrown a fault code E2 which according to the book is a tripping of the water level switch. unfortunately the book dosent tell you where the switch is located or how...

I don't mean to make you sound stupid but it isnt a switch that you can use.

It is used in a dishwaher to make sure that the water doesnt over fill and spill over out of the dishwasher and electricute someone. it cuts off the water (when working corectly) and washes as normal or if it over fills it tells you and in your case it is error E2

you need to speak to a appliance repare shop to see what needs to be fixed or replaced.
Hopefully this has givin you some help

if you have any questions plese dont hesitate to ask

Smeg DWF612SS leaking & not functioning The dishwasher seems to attempt to run program's as normal but after a few minutes when the water is supposed to start spraying around inside, there is only a humming noise and no water seems to be coming in to the machine. Also, a small leak of water is coming out of the bottom of the machine. I have removed the covers and laid the unit on its side and it would appear that water is coming out of the salt reservoir/ water softener unit. I can see no other visible problems and no evidence that the water inlet pipe is not functioning and I have ensured that the drain is working normally. What I can see is that there is a darker, coppery coloured content inside the water softener reservoir, alongside the fresh new salt I put in this week. But right at the bottom of the white salt appears some grime or grit. Up on the Side, in the water softener tank ( the complex routed flat shaped tank), there appears to be a white calcified surface on some of the channels and there is water high in the tank which appears to be blocked by the calc deposits. So I can imagine if water pressure is being pushed into this whole system and water is unable to flow, then the whole reservoir will begin to leak. Do all of these components need replacing or can I remove them and maybe wash out with some mild acid to remove the offending calc? Or am I barking up the wrong tree altogether? One concern is that if I remove these parts then I may damage other seals. Help/ advice would be very welcome, thanks.
