Question about Computers & Internet

I have no notifications when I use the function key

I recently had to format my hard drive and start fresh. I've got almost everything working except for the function keys. The keys will still do everything, such as changing the volume or muting, changing brightness, etc. But there is no more notification that appears on my screen. For example, if I would use the fn keys to change the volume, a little speaker would appear on my screen with a bunch of dots to show me how loud the speakers were set to. It doesn't do that anymore and the volume also changes by 1% increments as opposed to 10% like it used to. Also, when I press the wireless antenna key, a window used to pop up where I could turn the bluetooth and wireless antenna on or off. Now what it does is cycle through all the possible settings instead o letting me choose what to turn on or off. I have an Acer Aspire 5750G, Windows 7 64-Bit, and looking at the acer website I have no idea which driver/program I would need to get this back again. If anyone can help me that would be greatly appreciated.

    Yeah, I just noticed I didn't install the Startup Launcher, which had all the things I needed. I guess I just missed it.

SOURCE: FN keys don't work on Sony VAIO VGN-SZ18GP

The solution is as follows, which worked for me:

- Install Windows 7
- let it update all the drivers that it needs to
- Install additional Sony drivers that you need (XP drivers work just fine, but make sure to install them in Administrator mode, so, Run as Administrator), such as camera, fingerprint scanner, etc
- Install the Notebook Control Device Driver (without this the other software does nothing)
- Sony Utilities DLL
- Sony Shared Library

* restart computer *

- Sony Video Shared Library
- SUS (Setting Utility Series)

* restart computer *

- VES (VAIO Event Service)

After this one the Fn keys will start to work. The S1 and S2 keys don't work due to something to do with UAC (but I don't need them anyway)

- VAIO Control Centre (will allow you to change what the S1 and S2 keys do, even though you can't use them :) )

That's it and it worked for me.

SOURCE: volume stuck on mute for wireless speakers

After pairing it, have you tried to go to your sound settings in Control Panel and selecting the bluetooth device as your standard sound device?

Hello,

Are you sure that you have installed the correct driver? Try going to the website of your computer's manufacturer and get the driver from there.

Hi,

It sounds as though you have software incompatibility problem. With a bit of good fortune, Microsoft can diagnose the problem( s) and fix it in three easy clicks and it's free. CLICK HERE

If that doesn't do the job, you'll have to format the hard drive. Hopefully, you've been backing up everything on the external drive because the formatting process erases everything.

My hp pavilion dv7-4285dx has lost everything, os and all. How can I get it to read the recovery disc I ordered from HP?

What makes you think you've lost everything? Unless you specifically instructed your computer to Format the hard drive, I would doubt very seriously that you have lost everything. Everything might still be there, but a virus has hidden it to make you think you've lost everything. Oh, one more way to lose everything is to interrupt a System Recovery before it completes, or interrupt an Fresh Install of Windows before it completes.

A lot of times the System will think you've lost everything because somehow a setting the bios was changed either by you or some virus and it has set the hard drive where it is not detectable. Turn your computer off then watch the screen to see which key you have to hit to get into the BIOS or SETUP or System Setup.

Once you are in the BIOS scroll through it looking for AHCI that will be associated with disk drives or disk controllers. If it is Enabled, Disable it and Boot your machine. If it is Disabled, Enable it and Boot your machine. In other words just change the settings for AHCI.

Do that and report back.

Before you deal with SMART let me explain what it is and what is the function of SMART:-SMART stands for Self Monitoring And Repair/Reporting Technology
It's not that useful, and I've never seen a Smart error fix itself. It works as a helping tools for drive. it detect the drive problem.

Now Follow This Steps:-Enter to your bios by pressing DEL or F2 or it may F9 or F10 key it depends on the motherboard & disable the SMART drive feature, you don't need it. It's a leftover from the past for the most part.

If you can't find SMART function in your BIOS, just try this-- You must enable the 'advanced settings' first, usually by pressing ctrl&F1 when in the main BIOS screen. Then if you go into standard BIOS settings (or something like that), the option for SMART to be enabled should be there
