Dell computer cd rom drive disappeared - Toshiba Satellite X205-S9349 Notebook

The driver for the CD ROM it is loading with windows when you instal the computer ..If the drive letter disappeared and it seams to be uninstalled in device manager it means it was attacked by a virus and even if you load the driver again it will do the same ..In this case you have to reinstall the operation system from the recovery source or from a boot-able disk ..

Reset ur CMOS and use reginout it will fix ur problem

Delete theUpper / Lower Filters from the Registry.

uninstall / reinstall the cd drive

update the drive .

restart the pc.

Try to visit the dell or cd/dvd manufacturer website and download the proper driver for the model of the cd-rw/dvd-rom drive.

If you feel comfortable opening the case, check the ribbon cable connection and make sure it is solid at the motherboard and the CD-ROM drive. First, make sure the pc is off, unplugged and you are touching metal at all times during the process. Power back on and see if that does it. If not, could be drive failure or virus problem.

Try changing the power socket attached to your DVD drive with other available one, and restart your machine. If it is not yet shown in My Computer. try replacing the ribbon connector from motherboard to DVD Drive. If it is not yet shown in My Computer you try then to enter setup from start up to manually detect your DVD Drive. If you need to buy a new drive you can get it at any computer shop or at dell service center.

When you boot up check the bios to see if its connected, update drivers, if all else fails its broke.

Yes it is a common problem with Dell machines. Try right clicking on the icon in My Computer and selecting 'eject' If that does not work then just buy a new one and install. It is a straightforward job. just make sure the jumper connections on the new player are set the same as the old one

You will need to connect to cables.1 is from the power supply and one is from motherboard.Just connect both to the ROM and start the computer.Windows will automatically install the drivers for your ROM..

I would think either your IDE cable is faulty or the IDE connector on the motherboard, try swapping cables or use a double IDE cable on IDE 1 connector. You may have a faulty drive ide connection input in which case a new DVD Rom is the answer, only cheap nowadays.
