The loudspeaker is located in the bottom left hand side of the ipod. You have to remove the screen to access it, unfortunately most times you try to remove screen (unless you are experienced, and have proper tools) you end up breaking the screen. The speaker is connected to main board with a red and a black wire, you must un solder these connections and solder the new speaker into place. The speaker, however, is stuck down quiet firmly to the housing. Carefull when you remove it not to damage main board.

We get a lot of these repairs from people who try to change their own screens not knowing that the speaker sits just underneath the metal plate under the lcd. The speaker is usually ripped away from main board. Luckily its a easy fix. A simple re-soldering of the part could be all you need. iPod touch 4th generation Speaker Repair

The ipod touch HPJ is not too hard to repair. A good source for the part would be ebay. But There is a stepby step guide toothat explains how to repair the jack as opposed to replacing it : iPod touch repair. There are also third party iPod repair companies that do it for you.

Disabled can get in

1. First, Open up iTunes, plug in your iPod Touch/iPhone to the CPU's USB port. Turn on your CPU's speaker and make sure it is loud enough that you can hear it.

2. Hold down the Home button (top left for iPod Touch and top right for the iPhone with the screen facing you) and the Power button (located on the front bottom of your iPod Touch/iPhone) simutaneously, until the screen goes black and the device turns off. (past the red slider/slide to power off screen)

3. Now let go of the Power button, but continue to hold the Home button. Your iPod Touch/iPhone should have turned off and the screen should not be on.

and restore it

4g iPod touch, external speaker not working. Works fine with headphones

Try to put your ipod touch into recovery mode and then restore it. possibly the firmware of your ipod touch has some bugs which is restring the external speaker to work out. this should fix your ipod touch probably.

    When I plug in my Ipod to the inMotion im310 portable speaker the Ipod screen says it is not supported, and it worked this morning.

    Check the pins on the speaker and on the plugin on the iPod, that's the problem usually. Also, check if the iPod is truly compatible, even if it worked before it may not be. I have seen car chargers for say a 2G iPhone work for a bit then say incompatible, it happens. Here are the compatible iPods for the iM310:

    Plays and charges
    iPod mini;
    iPod nano 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G;
    iPod classic 3G, 4G, 5G, 5.5G, 6G;
    iPod touch 1G, 2G

    Good luck!
