If it's left on for a period of time, specified by the power settings, it will dim the display, Hibernate, Sleep, etc. In the Control Panel, Power settings, Advanced Power setting , Change to High Preformance, adjust Hibernate and Sleep to Never, adjust advanced power setting to your specs. Shut down and unplug laptop , remove battery, when not in use, if you use on AC most of the time remove battery.

all that is set like that and ive tried taking the battery out while its plugged in, it doesnt do it after a certain amount of time just randomly when ever it wants, sometimes after a half hour sometimes it will do it after 2 min, and will even do it another 2 min after you turn it back on, ive noticed the power supply block get pretty hot but the laptop dont feel hot, ive also tried the underlaptop cooling station, didnt help at all either, but it only does it when it is plugged in to the ac adapter

I would suspect it getting hot and shutting down, on battery the laptop will shut down or reduce settings to conserve battery. Make sure the fan and vents are clean. It may be a sensor fault or a component failing. It's difficult to be presise. The "brick" or transformer will get hot, Is it a replacement?

no its the original, my only guess is internal parts that have to do with the power

I would say your on the right track. Go to Sony support websites and forums , there may be a hotfix/patch that address the issue or is a re-ocurring problem.

SOURCE: I just bought this brand sony vaio new laptop and ...

You need to register the Vaio and if you are using the MS office that came on the computer you will need to go through the purchase and registration process. The version they put on computers today is a 90 day temporary trial that requires you to purchase a product key to continue using it. You can go to Walmart, Target, Best Buy and purchase the software there to get your key if you prefer. It will cost the same.

Sony vaio PCG-7142L keeps freezing

Can check if the battery is low ... or is not (or cannot) holding a good charge ... when you unplug it (from the charger) ... when this happens ?

If that is the case, it may "freeze" while it is busy trying to store the contents of your memory before it shuts down (or hibernates). Does it shut down (or goes into hibernate if you let it continue to "freeze") for a while ? If so, then it's your battery.

If the battery doesn't hold a good charge, the laptop will run only a short time (while unplugged) before it has to shut down due to low battery. And if this is the case, consider getting a replacement (new) battery. And follow the initial charging instructions (for a new battery) to lengthen the life of the battery.

Toshiba satellite pro does not fully shutdown

In Control Panel, select Power Options, you didn't post your OS?, set to High Performance, open Change Plan settings, set Computer Sleep Never, open Change Advanced power settings, scroll through the settings, set Sleep and Hibernate to Never, open Power Buttons and Lid, set to shut down. Now the red X on the Battery Icon usually means the battery needs replacing, it's not charging. Shut down the Laptop unplug, remove battery, plug in , reboot.

My sony vaio vgn-nr32s has a onboard vga problem, when i heat the board, it will come up and in three days the screen will go blank again.pls what will i do?

First, do you leave the laptop plugged in and on all the time? If so , Why? If you shut down and unplug when not in use your machine/battery will last longer and avoid any power surge issues. Make sure the fan and vents are clean and free of dust, use a can of Compressed Air to clean. Also, Open the Control Panel, select Power Options, select High Performance, set plugged in settings to Power Button: Shut Down, Sleep Button: Sleep, Close the Lid: Shut Down, open change plan settings/advanced power options, look through the advanced settings select Hibernate to Never, set other settings to your preference. When laptop charging in off position and if i connect usb pen drive, ext. HDD, etc. these are on and flashing

Is the laptop off or Hibernating? Sleeping? Open the Control Panel, Power Options, Set to High Performance, open Advanced Power settings, set Hibernate and Sleep to Never. Shut down the laptop at the Start Menu. If the AC cord is plugged in the battery will charge. Nothing else should work.

My Vaio doesn't go to sleep/hibernate when closing the lid

Maybe the little sensor or pin that sticks up and is pushed in when you close the lid is broken and the software doesn't realize the lid has been closed.

The sleep and hibernate buttons are grayed out. Running XP SP3 and on a Sony Vaio VGN-T150

install the keyboard drivers, go here:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=PCVW600G

Go down to the keyboard section and download that piece of software and install it. That should take care of the sleep and hibernate buttons not working.
