Model 2375 - having exactly the same problem, and it is day two for me. I replaced fuel lines and cleaned the carb. I am getting fire. I can get it to start for 5 seconds, but then it dies. I can spray it with either and it will start for 5 seconds and then die. Any ideas would be appreciated.

My 2006 poulan wild thing chain saw 42cc will not hit at all i am getting fuel

check for spark, if you have spark pour a very small amount of fuel down the spark plug hole, if it runs for a few seconds and stops. You have a fuel problem. If there is no spark, try a new plug, if still no spark you have an electrical problem. All is assuming you have compression. If no compression your motor needs refurbishing.

I have a wild thing 2375. Was running one day, shut itself off,and has never fired or started since. It has compression, fuel, spark, but will not so much as even pop. Not even on ether. Even local chainsaw...

In my experiance with two-cycles that have spark and fuel usually the missing ingredient is not enough compression. Try taking the piston out of the cylinder and check the condition of the piston ring and cylinder wall. The piston ring cannot be broken, collapsed or 'welded' to the piston which can happen if the saw is run on straight gas. The cylinder wall cannot be scored at all to get the compression levels required for gas with oil mixed in it to burn. One other possibility is that your spark isn't hot enough. Possibly caused by a small piece of carbon stuck in the spark plug or a bad ignition module.

I have a wild thing. the rope pull starter is very hard to pull. when i take the spark plug out it is easy to pull. the saw was not used for about 4 years until yesterday. it ran for about 45 minutes fine....

one piston ring has expanded now having no or a very fine gap increasing the compression ratio causing this to happen. When the spark plug is removed it is very easy to pull on the cord in any means. A inspection is due of this engine or a new chain saw is needed

Poulan Wild Thing 18" Gas chain saw starts no problem but it runs for maybe 30 sec. then stops each time. I changed the core same thing.

Do a tune up. It is easy. Just take out the carb and clean with any commercial carb cleaner nad change the spark plug.

Pull cord difficult to pull..removed from saw it works fine..with spark plug installed hard to pull ..with plug removed (of course there is no compression) ,the pull cord pulls easily..saw worked greatall...

Make sure someone hasn't run this saw without the oil in the fuel mixture. It is possible it is dry and some galling is happening. Or - if this saw is equipped with a compression bleeder (for easier starting), this could be not functioning and you're pulling through the normal compression (which can be a bit feisty!). Check for misalignment of some type having to do with the pull starter - check that the cord spool isn't rubbing on the housing when you pull. Good luck.

Poulan Wild Thing starts great but as soon as I try to cut it die

The carb low idle needs to be adjusted this is fairly common among the Poulan chain saws. Once you adjust the low idle from factory setting it will work

Wild Thing-(18")hard starting

I own the Poulan Chain Saw the Wild Thing. Replaced the spark plug and fuel filter and made a fresh batch of gasoline mix and I am still having a hard time getting it started. I had the exact same problem last fall. Repair shop told me it was flooded. If this is the case how do I resolve the problem. I took the plug out and it was dry.

Thanks,

**** Hansen
