Cisco 2900xl switch - can't type anything in console?

My 2900 series router won't accept input in putty. i get all the output in the beginning, but once it's finished loading and doing post, it just sits there, and i know its on and working because when i unplug devices from the ports, it says line protocol changed state to up, etc.

i think my console port is gone, but im not sure.

How are you connecting to the switch using Putty? Via the console port or using telnet?

Login with you aux port and then do a show run and see if you have "no exec" under your con 0 and vty 0 4. If so then:

  1. config t
  2. line con 0
  3. exec
  4. line vty 0 4
  5. exec

Please try using Hyperterminal, it's in accessories> communications>
Use com port and click on "restore default" on next window and then ok. Then try typing it will probably work.
The console port is fine as you can see all the outputs coming from there.
Try changing the settings in putty under keyboard, make sure the bit rate selected is 9600bps.

SOURCE: Cisco error on switch

%SYS-4-P2_WARN: 1/Tag 0 The switch generates %SYS-4-P2_WARN: 1/Tag 0… messages.
This example shows the syslog output that you see when this error occurs:
%SYS-4-P2_WARN: 1/Tag [dec] on packet from [ether] port [chars],
but port's native vlan is [dec] This message indicates that an 802.1Q-tagged packet was received on a nontrunk port. The VLAN that is derived from the packet tag is different from the port native VLAN. In the error message:

  • The Tag [dec] is the VLAN identifier from the packet.
  • The [ether] is the host MAC address.
  • The port [chars] is the port identifier.
  • The second [dec] is the native VLAN number.
There is a possibility that the local port is incorrectly configured as an access port instead of a trunk port. Alternately, the remote side can have been configured as a trunk port instead of an access port.
Verify that the local port is not incorrectly configured as an access port instead of a trunk port. Also, verify that the remote side is not configured as a trunk port instead of an access port.

SOURCE: cisco catalyst 3500xl (24 port) bad console

It is possible that your console port is configured for a different baud rate. Try to change your baud rate on your hyper terminal going from 115200 down to 2400. If it doesn't work you might have a problem with 232 driver chip that is located on the board next to your console port. You will not be able to find a schematics for this switch, it is not available for the public.
You can send this switch to me. I will glad to fix it for you.

Good luck.

SOURCE: How do I connect cable modem to cisco 3560 switch and configure it?

The cable modem will need to go through a router because it needs a NAT and PAT translation table, connecting the cable modem direct would lose the ability to get to the internet.

Console interface problem on the switch

HyperTerminal sucks. Use PuTTY and make sure you have the correct baud rate of 9600 set.

I have such a problem, i am trying to connect a dlink switch with a cisco 2900 switch and ports do not synchronize, while as with another cisco 2900 it syncronizes

You should confirm that all speed/duplex settings match on both sides of the link. Also ensure that there are not VLANs set on the ports to which you are connecting, as that will also prevent communication if misconfigured. In addition, if you do a "show log" on the cisco switch console, it may give you more insight into what's happening as the specific log entries will be relevant.
