Hi....according to the manual for the 2700 model, you need go to the System tab, then choose System Password, to access the page you need.

There's a useful diagram in the manual, available through the 2wire site:

    Hope this is some help?

In order for you to reset your 2wire to default, you can press the reset button on the bottom part of your modem. Once you access you modem interface it will set to default.

Or you can also type on the address bar of your browser to change the password.

Resetting the System Password
If you forget your password and still cannot remember it after seeing your hint, click the I still can't remember the password link.
The Reset System Password page opens.
To obtain access to your system:
1. In the System Key field enter the 10-digit system key located on the bottom of your gateway.
2. In the Enter New Password field, enter a new system password. In the Confirm New Password field, reenter the system password.
3. In the Enter Your Hint field, enter an appropriate hint as described under "Setting a System Password" .

Setting a System Password
Setting a system password protects your gateway settings from being modified or changed by someone who has not been given permission to do so. After setting a system password, you will be required to enter it whenever you attempt to access a gateway configuration page - for example, if you try to change the gateway's broadband connection settings or upgrade the gateway software. If a password has not been set,
a reminder notice is displayed when you attempt to access pages where settings can be changed.
To set your system password:
• Open a Web browser and access the gateway user interface by entering
• Click the System tab.
• Click the System Password link in the System area of the Network at a Glance panel to open the Edit
System Password page.
1. In the Settings panel, click the Enable checkbox.
2. In the Enter New Password field, enter your password.
3. In the Confirm New Password field, re-enter your password.
4. Optional: In the Enter Your Hint field, enter a hint.
A hint is a word, phrase, or question that reminds you what the password is. There is an I forgot the password link on the password entry page. When you click this link, it shows you your hint and allows you to enter your password.
5. Click SAVE.

I have a 2wire wireless router but i've had it hooked up to my airport express as the wireless router. How do i get the 2wire to function as the wireless router? only the DSL light lights up, not the...

Since the Wireless light is off, lets assume that the access point is just switched off.

That function is switched on and off from the router's control panel accessible via web browser. And you can follow these steps to get to the Wireless configuration control panel.

Open this URL from your browser

If you have a system password enabled (and it's asking for it) but you didn't set it, or you forgot what it is you can click the

can’t remember the password

link if the password hint does not help you. In order to reset the password, you'll be asked to enter a 10 digit code which you can find on the bottom of the router itself.

Once you're able to gain access to the control panel, you'll want to
  1. click the 'Home Network' tab
  2. click the 'Wireless Settings' link
From this panel you can make changes to how the wireless access point portion of the router is configured. By default your router's wireless should be on, but since it's not I'm going to assume at one point in time someone turned it off so it wouldn't get confused with your airport express. If you just want your wireless settings back to the default settings
  1. click the 'RESTORE DEFAULTS' button
Then the wifi settings will be set to how they were when the router was purchased. By default the access point is secured by WEP encryption, and the key is located on the bottom of the router by the Serial Number.

Cannot get a 2Wire Gateway to recognize linksys wireless print server (wps54gu2). Can set up using lan and fix IP, enter wep password, etc. Once disconnected, gateway doesn't even recognize device.

1. Need to know what OS ( operating system) you are using.
2. Have you check if the settings are on " automatic DHCP and do you have the router
3.Check the firewall settings. This disconnection if not on the "access list" in the firewall settings.
4. Make sure you have the most current firmware updates on the router.
5. See if you can "ping" the wireless router.
6. check the " up grade history" page.

This may be a silly question, but have you input the WEP key for this new router into your laptop? It will be printed on the router with the serial number and such. It is the middle set, if I remember correctly. View all available networks with the laptop and pick yours. It should ask for the key. Input your new key and such, and you should be good as gold.

Hope this helps!

Yes, you will be able to put in a new password and you definitely should.

If you don't have a manual, you can download it here.( I know it says "2701", but that's the only one 2wire offers.)

But you don't have to necessarily reset your router this way. Look at page 6 and 7 of the manual, it describes a way how to reset the password, without loosing all the routers settings.

In your special case, where someone else "owned" the router, I would still do a hard reset (via the pin hole). The simple reason is that you don't know which settings that person changed and I would prefer to start from a clean plate instead of searching for any mysterious settings.

You want to hold the reset button for about 15-20 seconds, so the router can truly reset and reboot properly.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

2Wire 1701hg gateway- Broadband Access problem

hi! have you used this other identical 2wire modem before? if this other 2wire modem (is it the same 1701hg?) well you may need to configure the settings first. also 1000 series modems usually have 3 lights on it; power, broadband link, and local network. if these 3 lights are on, you may need to access the modem's user interface. assuming that all lights are green, on your computer directly attached to the 2wire, open up any browser, type in it will give you the network at a glance page. click on run system setup wizard, type in the system password. on the ppp authentication page, please check if it has your username & password (this is the one that you set up on your internet acct w/ your ISP), the next screen will establish a connection. (please tell me if you've got any error messages...)
