If your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
Click start control panel administrative tools computer management device manager scroll to sound video and game controllers you might see a yellow question exclamation mark? ! or a red X Right click to reinstall drivers. Click start control panel sounds and audio volume advanced speakers make sure you have selected the (appropriate speakers) also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have selected the correct speaker settings.
Click start control panel sounds and audio devices select advanced there might be a tick in the mute box untick it
If his does not fix the problem Click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker.

volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar for any further volume control settings you will need to right click on the speaker volume icon system select adjust volume. Click start control panel sounds and audio volume advanced speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable). The speaker plug/outlets is usually at the back of the computer or if its a laptop on the side.
You will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make

sure the connection is good with no dust as dust causes static electricity. Clean your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is

no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit.

Dust causes static to build up in a computer http://download.cnet.com/2000-20_4.html On the home page you should see a search tab just type in what you are looking for. Tick in either the all software or windows software box IE: motherboard name audio driver you might have to try a few times to get it right for windows 7 Click start right click on computer select properties then device manager scroll to sound and video game controllers if you see a yellow question/exclamation mark or a red X the driver will need to update drivers. Click start right click on computer select properties then device manager scroll to sound and video if you right click on sound and video then on high definition audio device select update driver software. Click start control panel hardware and sound manage audio devices right click on your speaker select configure speakers. Right click on the speaker icon in the bottom taskbar you will see an array of options select playback devices make sure it has a green tick and the correct speakers are selected be updated if you computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it although once speakers are connected widows 7 should automatically update the drivers. Click start control panel hardware and sound manage audio devices playback you might have to set a default go for via high definition audio then right click on speaker. You might have to configure them then select properties you will see tabs general level in this tab make sure your settings are loud enough also enhancements and advanced from the drop down list in the advanced tab select dvd quality or another then apply Hope this helps.

You didn't supply the eMachine model. Go to the eMachine support and drivers website and try to re-install the audio driver.

SOURCE: sound plays distorted but sound card is working .

Sounds like you need to check the connection to your sound system. Could be the jack is not in properly or there`s a short in the cable to your soudn system. Check the cable if necessary. You might also be overloading the input on your soudn sytem so try to reduce the volume of the computer and raise the volume on the sound system. If your cable is shorting or coming loose inside the jack you will have problems.

Creative sound card! no sound!

Check whether you plugged in the speaker wire into the correct jack at the back of the computer (it should go into the green colored jack on the sound card).

Did you try playing a sound file? Does media player show the file as playing, but you can't hear anything? Or do you get any error? if there's any error, please mention the error.

If the sound plays but you can't hear anything, again, check the speakers are connected to the correct sound jack. Next, try connecting a pair of headphones or earphones (lower the volume before playing any sound  or music file).

If you still can't hear anything, click Start and type the command "dxdiag" in the Run box and then press the Enter key. In the dxdiag window, click the Sound tab. Check the Notes box, if it gives any error info. If your card is working, it should say 'No problems found." You can also test the sound using the "Test Directsound" button.

If you still can't hear any sound, you should check and reinstall your sound card driver manually after removing it first.

There may be other problems. For more information, check this nice blog post about sound problems.

Hope that helps.

Raspal

No audio file will play on WMP, no dvd or audio disk will play...

Windows Media Player cannot play several files in the playlist. This might be caused by one or more problems.
To find information about the specific problems, click the Now Playing tab, and then click the blue or red icon next to each file in the List pane.
In some cases, you might encounter this error message if there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller. For example:
  • Your sound device requires an updated driver. To determine if an updated driver is available, see Windows Update or see the sound device manufacturer's Web site.
  • Your sound device is not functioning properly. To troubleshoot the problem, see Windows Help and Support or refer to your sound device's documentation.
  • You do not have a sound device installed on your computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play the file again

Loss of volume

Hi,

About 6 months ago I had to wipe my hard drive clean and then reinstall all disks for my Dell Dimension 4500 system. Ever since then, there has been no sound for emails, music, Start-up and Logging off etc...etc.

When trying to play a cd for instance, or anything requiring sound, the following message appears:
media_player9.gif 0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller. You may encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:
  • Your sound device is in use by another program. Quit other programs that may be using your sound device, and then try to play the file again.
  • Your sound device is not functioning properly. To troubleshoot the problem, see the Sound Troubleshooter in Windows Help or refer to your sound device's documentation.
  • You do not have a sound device installed on your computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play the file again.

There are no other programs running and I have repeatedly gone to control panel and gone through all the Windows sound trouble shooting suggestions regarding sound devices. All wire connections have been checked and there was no change in regard to the plug-in areas.

Everything worked great soundwise prior to re-installation, no wires or connection locations were changed, and no one else has used my computer so I have ruled out any accident by another person.

Please call me or email me at l.bassing@att.net, Phone is 551-497-2795 to help me while at my computer. It will be so much appreciated. This problem has been driving me crazy for too long.

Thanks so much for your prompt attention and looking foward to speaking to a tech repair adviser asap.

Sincerely,
Lauré Bassing

go to the Sound section and expand it --- then highlight the device and right click and then select Update Driver.

There is a beep system in all PC's
One quick been means the computer is OK when starting.
one long continuous beep is defined as :

Note: Alternately it could be a Memory module
However it's more likely that it's the above

If you check those two things, you are likely to find the culprit.
If not, you need to post your BIOS and
