Question about Compaq Presario M2000 Notebook
I HAVE A PRESARIO C500 LAPTOP AND NEED TO REMOVE BATTERY
TO INSTALL MORE MEMORY. WHAT I THINK IS THE BATTERY LATCH IS POSITIONED ALMOST ENTIRELY TO THE RIGHT WITH THE COMPUTER UPSIDE DOWN. THE LATCH (IF THAT'S WHAT IT IS) ILL MOVE TO THE RIGHT ABOUT I/16 OF AN INCH AND WILL NOT MOVE TO THE LEFT AT ALL (ALTHOUGH THERE IS A SPACE OF ABOUT
1/2 AN INCH). HOW DO I RELEASE THE BATTERY, IT'S NOT COVERED IN MY OWNER'S MANUAL
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
It would appear that what you have been doing is correct. It is just that something is preventing the latch moving fully to the open position. If this assumption holds true then, it could be the battery itself is not seated properly. Might I suggest that instead of pressing on the latch, press on the battery to allow the latch to lock fully, then when it has done so, slide the latch to unlock. The hook/lock has not settled into its proper place (locked position) and the pressure is keeping the battery in place but all the same also keeps the latch from moving freely. In some instances, a drop of WD40 oil could also help stuck locks. It is electrically safe and therefore could be used.
Pls post back results. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Regular maintenance of your Compaq Presario laptop helps to keep the machine running properly.
Keeping the fans clean is especially important, because the fans blow out hot air and bring in fresh air to cool down the laptop.
Fans attract dust, however, which can slow them down, resulting in a hot laptop.
If the laptop overheats, vital parts can cease functioning altogether.
Consequently, keeping your laptop's fans clean is crucial.
or Remove an HP Presario C500 Fan Assembly to clean it
HP Presario C500 is a laptop that, like most other laptops, requires a clean, functioning fan in order to work properly.
If your fan is too full of dust to function properly or needs to be replaced because it is no longer working, then your computer could be in danger of overheating and crashing.
Instead of having to purchase a new laptop because your C500's fan has failed, remove it and clean the fan or replace it with a new one.
Turn off your computer and unplug all the cords and cables from it, even the power cable.
Turn the laptop over and remove the battery, then remove all the screws at the bottom of the computer with a Phillips-head screwdriver.
Remove the two face plates from the bottom of the computer and you'll see the hard drive and RAM below.
The face plates will come out easily once the screws are removed.
Remove the two screws holding the hard drive in place and then lift the hard drive out.
Remove the screw found directly below the hard drive.
Turn the laptop over again and pop off the keyboard.
If all the screws at the bottom of the computer where removed, then the keyboard will come right out.
Remove all the screws underneath the keyboard and case and then lift the case enough to access the fan assembly in your HP Presario C500.
Unhook the cable coming from the fan into the motherboard and remove the screws holding the fan in place, then pop the fan out of the computer.
Hope this helps
