Try to clean the cartridges manually ,this may help:

# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel.
# Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
# Continue doing this until it looks clean.
# Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing.
# Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.

1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier.
2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.

# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.

I have used last 4 year canon 2900B printer. How to set 300 dpi printing resoluation

Canon PIXMA Manuals MG2900 series Resolution
Resolution The data in the image you have scanned is a collection of dots carrying information about brightness and color. The density of these dots is called "resolution", and resolution will determine the amount of detail your image contains. The unit of resolution is dots per inch (dpi). Dpi is the number of dots per inch (2.5 cm). The higher the resolution (value), the more detail in your image; the lower the resolution (value), the less detail.

How to Set the Resolution You can set the resolution in Resolution on the (Scanning from a Computer) tab of the Settings dialog.
Appropriate Resolution Settings Set the resolution according to the use of the scanned image.
Item Type Use Color Mode Appropriate Resolution Color photo Copying
(Printing) Color 300 dpi Creating a postcard Color 300 dpi Saving to a computer Color 300 dpi Using on a website or attaching to e-mail Color 150 dpi Black and white photo Saving to a computer Grayscale 300 dpi Using on a website or attaching to e-mail Grayscale 150 dpi Text document (document or magazine) Copying Color, Grayscale, or Black and White 300 dpi Attaching to e-mail Color, Grayscale, or Black and White 150 dpi Scanning text using OCR Color or Grayscale 300 dpi Important
  • If you double the resolution, the data size of the scanned image quadruples. If the file is too large, the processing speed will slow down significantly, and you will experience inconvenience such as lack of memory. Set the minimum required resolution according to the use of the image.
Note
  • When you will be printing the scanned image by enlarging it, scan by setting a higher resolution than the recommended one above.

Internal error - IllegalResolution in excel printing

Using a high dots-per-inch (dpi) resolution for printing produces quality printing results, but it may take longer to print. You can change the resolution settings to a lower dpi setting, depending on the type of printer that you use. If the printer that you use supports draft quality printing, you can specify draft quality for faster printing instead.

Font height is big in printed barcode. how can I adjust the size of the font?

check if the setting FORMAT CONVERT is with some numbers, please change for NONE.
This seting change the resolution from Printhead 200dpi or 300dpi or 150 dpi or none, none mins, if you have 200dpi printhead, print 200dpi resolution(small fonts). if have 300 dpi, print with 300 dpi resolution, if have 300 dpi(very small fonts) printhead, can print 150dpi(big fonts) if change this setting.
if ok, check the driver or your software.

Images scan set at 300 dpi, end up 72 dpi

It depends on the physical size of the images. Size and resolution are related to each other. Let me explain:
You have an original, say, 2 inches by 2 inches.
You scan it with resolution of 300dpi (dots per inch).
You will get a file that's 600 by 600 pixels, right?
Then you look at it on screen, which has a resolution of 72dpi - if it's displayed without magnification, what size the picture will be? 600 divided by 72 = 8 and 1/3 of an inch, so on screen it will be 8 1/3 by 8 1/3 inches.

So, there's no such thing as a picture file's "real" resolution - we can talk about a resolution at a given size, because it's the horizontal and vertical size in pixels what's "real".

Therefore you have to ask what size the scanned picture is, and then look at the file you receive; in it's properties you will find it's number of pixels horizontally and vertically, and from that you can easily calculate (dividing the height in pixels by the height in inches) the actual resolution the file has been scanned at.
Then you'll know for sure if need to complain to the friend ot not :)

Scanning files to large

It's the resolution you are using to scan. Try a lower setting. for documents, 150-200 dpi is fine. That will produce smaller files.

HP2100 laserjet won't print inserted pix in Word 2007 doc

I ended up fixing this problem myself.

I needed to set the printing resolution in the HP printing dialog box to 1200 x 1200 dpi as the HP2100 can print at this resolution.

Select: Print/Properties/Advanced/Graphics. Then set the printquality to 1200 x 1200 dpi.
