Linksys Power cut problem

Hi, we have a standard broadband, standard laptop and a Linsys wireless router, everything works fine until a power cut or my 17 month old switches the swich off (that the router is plugged into) then we cannot connect to the internet.

We have to set up the whole system again which takes us a good hr or so... This only happened AGAIN last week when my little girl turned off the router at the plug. I managed to fix it, (don't know how buttook ages) then tonight we get a split second power cut and it's gone again!! It is really annoying.

We have downloaded Linksys Easylink advisor to help. We can connect to the internet when wired, and our wireless says it is still connected with excellent signal etc etc, HOWEVER take out the cable to use the wireless and it displays the usual 'this page cannot be displayed please check your connections'.

Last time I got it working I used the Easylink and it goes through the processes of setting up a new router (whilst wired at this point) It says cannot find an active internet connection, whilst I have google running in the background running ok???

I press next and it asks for the usual wireless name etc and searches for another connection and says still can't find it, I thought I can't be bothered anymore and closed it down and unplugged the cables and found the internet all of a sudden still running ok... Great fixed but don't ask me how I did it... so tonight after our tiny power cut, went through the exact same motions again and nothing! So the only connection I can get is through wired or someone elses non secured wireless. Can someone please help us... we have had this problem and fear of anymore power cuts. Many Thanks

With regard to power cuts, i highly suggests you to buy a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) to prevent further damage to your router. You can simply reconfigure the wireless settings of the router by accessing the router's Setup Page. Go to http://192.168.1.1, go to wireless tab and you can change the network name as well as enable the wireless security.

Hi,

If you can access the configuration page of the router then check the IP configuration. Check WAN and LAN configurations. IP 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 will able u to access configuration page. Username and password hopefully be admin admin.

I have a wt54-g broadband router. when trying to go wirless everything went through fine except 1 problem it says cannot connect to the internet. Any way to solve this?

Unplug house connection or router for 30 seconds, then do the linsys for 10 seconds and plug back in. This should reset everything to work correctly. If needed, reset ip address on your pc. Set up home network if necessary.

Check your power adapter with a digital multimeter. Make sure the voltage is no higher than .5 volts than what's listed. If the voltage is malfunctioning and it gets to high, it can damage the ethernet port and more on your system if it is connected wired.

Blinking power light - router not working properly

Blinking power light on the Linksys routers indicate 2 things. 1st is firmware problem, 2nd is the worst one which is defective router. You can still revive it if you can reload the firmware. If not, it's a dead one and you need to purchase a new one. And man, your router is a very old one. You must switch to wireless G router, its 5 times faster than your wireless B and it only cost 30 or 40 bucks

I have Time Warner Cable for internet and Vontage cable for my phone thru my internet. I'm trying to connect a Linksys router for my wireless laptop. I also have a Netgear switch connected to Time Warner...

If you purchased a Linksys wireless roter then you shoul not need the switch anymore-
Try going directly from your time warner modem into the Interner/WAN port on the router and then plug your desktop computer and the vontage phone system into 2 of the ports on the router. After everything is hooked up you will probably need to power cycle for it all to work correctly.
Please power cycle in this order:

Reboot modem - then Router- then Vontage phone system.

Hope this helps

Try to reset the router for 20 seconds. There's a reset button at the back of the router. Just press and hold it down for 20 seconds, then unplug the power for 30 seconds, the plug it back in. Now try to reconnect to the Linksys wireless network.
