SOURCE: pwr cord rewind reel

You have to pop the grey button off for the cord rewind. There is one more screw under there. You have to be very careful, because you can break one of the tabs that hold the button on. In fact, it is almost a garuntee. There are three tabs that stick off the button that hold it in place on the orange hood. There's a long tab about 3/4 inch long on the inside corner of the button you need to be careful of. Good luck!

SOURCE: I have a progressive 360

There should be tabs that need to be pressed in, and will allow the filter cover to be removed to access the filter. On some models, the tabs are accessed from the bottom by tilting the unit on its side, or by simply pressing them in from the top, then pull the filter cover up.

My vac turns on then right off even after we changed the bag

There may be a safety switch for the bag cover and it may not be engaged properly. Try taking the bag cover off or open it and try closing it again.

How do i open my canister vacuum

Open the bag door and grip the bumpers with a set of pliers. The bumpers cover a set of locking keys which will slide all the way forward and out. The back of the vac will then lift off and the top and bottom will open hinging forward like a **** shell. Observe how the front door hinge clips into the lower body before opening teh unit.
If you do this , tag your wires and observe how the pieces interlock. Open the vac with it laying upside down on a piece of carpet.
It will NOT go back togerther unless it is perfectly reassembled , so don't force it.
Post your problem before opening and I will walk you through the reapir

Shut off the vac and open container and remove the bag. Try dropping a coin into the hose, then raise up to see if it falls thru to the bag area. If it does check the throat of the vac where the dirt is sucked upward to dump into the bag itself.

UNABLE TO FIT BELT ON MY ULTIMATE UPRIGHT G BAG VACUUM CLEANER.

You need to disengage the carpet head from the vac itself. Do this by lifting the headlight and rotating the thumb lock underneath. Then release the carpet head by turning the square dial below the light. Once you have lifted the head off the vac you will see from the backside of the head there is a belt hook holding the old belt in a twist.
pop the brush cover off at the bottom of the head but note which end of the brush goes right and left. Slide the new GENUINE belt onto the brush roll and inspect the brush for hair and thread caught at the ends.
Reisnatll the bottom plate in reverse order making sure the brush sits level in the housing. There are leveling blocks at each which are color coded.
Once again rotate the square dial on the front of the housing, in both directions if necessary ,You will feel the dial tension as it hooks your new belt inside the housing and twists it into installation position.
Reinstall the head in reverse order onto the vac.

How do I open my Kenmore Whispertone 12.0 to get to the cord reel

The motor / cord compartment cover must be removed to access the cord reel. There are four screws that hold the cover to the chassis. Two of the screws are found under the cord-retractor-foot-pedal on the top back of the canister. To access these screws the pedal must be removed. To do this, press the pedal down and look (from the top) for the four plastic clips that attach/hold the pedal hinges to the cover. There are two at the end corners and two in the middle. Using a long, thin flat-head screw driver (or similar instrument) press each clip to unhook/popout the hinges. Note: the foot pedal spring will also come out when the pedal is removed.

The other two screws are found under the curved hinges of the vaccum bag compartment cover. To access these, lift the cover as if accessing the vacuum bag. Keep pulling the cover back until the hinges release from the motor cover. Don't worry, it is disigned to do this and will not break but it may require a little force. A long phillip-head screw driver will be needed to access and remove each screw. Good luck. - Gary

Have a Sears shop vac, mod 113.172. The motor doesn't take in

If the motor turns, you should have suction. Put the hose on the exhaust side of the motor if there is a connection, and try to blow it out. If you can't, try using a garden hose or toilet snake to clear the hose. IF the hose is clear, and the problem continues, check the float in the cage below the motor. It should be down at the bottom of the cage. Also, if you haven't been using a bag or foam cover for the cage, it is possible for leaves to clog the motor.

Need to replace power cord and can't find how to open canister to replace

I had the same problem and could not find the other screws. You need to pry off the power cord retraction button, you will find two more screws under there. It's pretty easy after that!!!!
