Question about Insignia IS-DVD1001 DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

Camera Connection I have made recordings from a DV to the DVD several times and never had a problem. However, this time I plugged everything in as usual but instead of the icons that usually appear at the bottom of the screen (stop, play, pause, etc.), all that appears is "updating the information". This message does not go away and the dvd player wont record while it is there. If anyone knows how to fix this problem, please, let me know asap b/c I need this for work. Thanks!

Re: Camera Connection

You can try upn plugging the unit and then pluggin it back in, or use the remote to reset the unit to factory settings. But it sounds like you may have zapped on of the inputs with static electicity when plugging in. Could be zapped ports on the camera or the recorder.

Yeah most common problem that consumers encounter. Recently I adquire one for my production company. yeah, I search around and the best site was Depending in your camera model you would have to chec if is rca videos plugs type or Dv to Dv, USB, or IILink, in my case from my Sony camera to the Sony recorder I use the Dv to Dv. Just chec your specifications to make sure. has one of the most wide variety in cables that I have found in the internet one place and affordable.

Here is the owner's manual for your DVD machine. This is a VHS recorder but not a DVD recorder. To record VHS tapes to DVDs, you will need a DVD recorder.
You will plug the yellow video out connector on the VHS to the yellow 'Video in' connector on the DVD Recorder. Do the same for the red and white audio connections, out on the VHS, IN on the DVD Recorder. Connect your TV to the DVD recorder so you can see the picture you are recording.

I am a member of a paranormal group. Can I use my magnavox MWR10D6 DVD recorder to record from a cam. Is this possible?

As long as your DVD recorder has line inputs yes you can.

If your DVD recorder has a DV input, you can use a firewire cable. If your DVD recorder has audio and video inputs you can hook the output of your camera to the line inputs of your recorder and record in realtime
Most DVD recorders do have inputs, you can use either the Y/C (black round connector) or the composite (yellow connector) along with the audio inputs (red & white) RCA plugs depending on the type of camera you are using.

I have successfully made hundreds of play-able DVDs from my home video using this Liteon LVC9016G. Overall I like this machine although it is very quirky.

First, I can tell you the only DVD that can work is SONY DVD+R 120min / 4.7GB. NOTHING ELSE WILL WORK RIGHT. I have used some DVD-R: You can record on it since everything appears to work. The got-ya is you cannot play it at all. I am sick of this because I have re-used some tape but ended up with useless DVDs! Take my word for it, I have tried many media like Maxwell or Verbatin. These "other brands" are fine on the computer but not on this machine. I don't know what this machine can detect and see the differences in the media.

The good thing is that I was able to connect the DV port from my camcorder (Sony mini DV) to the dv port on this unit. Cable was not included so I bought one very cheap from eBay. This connection gives the best control as the LiteOn remote control can control the recording from camcorder to the DVD recorder and even make different menu items. This is not a published feature but I figured out. As I said I have made hundreds of home video on this unit and it is very nice (when it works.)

To remove "SAFE" from the front display, using the remote control, press and hold "INFO" for 5 seconds until it disappears. This was probably acitivated while you stopped a recording which can trigger it, of you may have activated "Safe" by pressing the INFO button several times. This is to prevent access of the recorder by locking all controls. This is for the DVD Recorder/VCR combo VR320 and the 1st generation DvD Recorder DVR-130.

Even though this was a product I regret purchasing, it isn't as bad a people make it out to be. It works best with DV cable recording from 1 Hour Mini-DV tape camcorders to 1 Hour XP Record DVD mode. It is probable one of the best. Only issue I have is when you try playing a finalized DVD-R disc in another DVD player, there is a chance it might not work because of the Highest quality 1 Hour record mode. Standard is 2 Hour SP. You will have to burn an exact copy using DVD copy software on your computer to DVD-R. This will fix the problem.

Dvd file system

The first is rather easy. You will have to finish the DVD to get it working. After copying a title, finish the DVD and put in you computer's DVD player. Either the film should start to play or you will be prompted whether you want to show the contents or other options. If either of this happens, you are good to go and you can copy the Video_TS folder which should be visible to your hard drive. Done it several times.
The second solution is something I try to figure out myself but it seems DV in is really IN and not OUT....

Customer Support ILO DVDR05 Recorder

I got my dvd recorder at wal mart. I have used it for a few months but never recorded with it. A friend hooked it up a second time as I got another tv. The manual got misplaced, and I can't find it anywhere. So I wanted to record this tv special, and couldn't get it to record. I contacted wal mart to try to get a phone # to contact the manufacturer to send me another manual. Talk about a run around. I was told that sansui made it, then orion, then cyberhome, then liteon, and also that it was a wal mart brand product. Everyone passed the buck. I contacted ilo tv, hoping they would get me in touch with the dvd recorder/player dept., they gave me ilo service, and ilo help. Nothing, I got nothing from either site. One site I talked to said the company was raided by the government and was now defunct. That is why you can not reach them. When I tried cyberhome, I got to their site, but nothing on my recorder, just sales on different machines. From all the negativity I have heard and read about concerning this product, it is no wonder you can't reach them. And it says alot about wal mart, they won't stand behind their products and they too are just out to make a buck, to heck with the customer, just give me your money, as if they don't have enough of a monoply and billions of dollars already. So I suggest you save your money and get a name brand recorder and throw your ilo products in the trash where they belong. If you haven't experienced problems yet, you will. We all learned a lesson in trying to save a buck, don't count on wal mart, think before you give them your money, and buy name brand products, you might think they are more expensive but at least you know they will be around to stand behind their products.
