I have a defective HP dvd 740 CD-Rw Drive model CGA-4166B. What model is compatable for replacement. I have a Presario SR1630NX. Thanks

Hi, Dwight.
I looked around, and I found that you can replace your cd burner drive with a dvd burner drive.

The best one that will go into your machine is a Pioneer DVD-RW DL.
It is a standard IDE/PATA drive, made for the older model computers like this one.

Pioneer DVD-RW Dl model DVR-118L

This is the same drive I have in my computer, as I have an old Dell computer, and the newer SATA type drives will not work in it.

It was fairly inexpensive, I think I only had to pay about $40 for it, and all you have to do is pull the old drive out, and plug the new one in the same way the old one is attached.

Make sure that if it has those easy drive rails on the old drive, that you take them off and replace them onto the new drive.
This will make installation alot easier.

You can buy the drive at Fry's, Best Buy, and CompUSA.

These stores still carry this model, but with technology advancing the way it does, they might not carry them much longer.

I hope this helps you out.

Good luck to you, and have a good day.

I removed my old cd rom that came with the computer and put the new one in.when i put the cd in that came with the new cd rom it said installation was unsuccessful.i bought the hp dvd1270i

Usually the software that comes with a new dvd/cd burner is just burning software (nero or roxio).
Your drive is just plug and play and windows has all the drivers that is needed.
I would uninstall the software you installed and try it with free software like IMGburn or CDburnerXP

I need to know how to remove a DVD drive for a HP lap top.

If your HP Pavilion DV6000 series laptop computer has a bad DVD drive, use the following steps to replace the drive

Purchase a new DVD drive to replace the old HP drive. You can use any slim DVD drive with a 50-pin ATAPI IDE Interface Connector. You will probably want a DVD burner since the original drive was capable of burning DVDs. The drive I used to replace the HP drive is a LG Black IDE Super-multi Slim Notebook DVD Rewriter - OEM version.

Unplug the power cord from your HP laptop. Remove the laptop battery from the back of the computer. This will eliminate the chance of power damage to your computer

Ground yourself by touching a metal object or touch your screwdriver on the ground while touching part of the metal. Unscrew the DVD drive screw circled in the Step 2 photo. Using a small Phillips head screwdriver turn the screw counter-clockwise until it is completely loosened. You may need to flip the computer over to get the screw to fall out. Put the screw in a safe location for later.

Put a small pointed tip object (a paper clip will also work) into the drive release hole on the face of the DVD drive. Use the hole to pull the drive out from the laptop body.

Remove the mounting bracket from the old DVD drive. There are two small Phillips head screws that need to be removed by turning them counterclockwise. Match the bracket up with the holes on the side opposite of the connection port. Using the two screws you just removed, secure the mounting bracket to the new DVD drive by tightening them in the clockwise direction.
Remove the original HP DVD drive face plate from the old drive. It can be removed by working it back and forth to loosen the faceplate. Once it is loose you should be able to pull the faceplate off.

Do the same for the new drive. Once the DVD faceplate is off, match the tabs of the original HP faceplate up and press in until it clicks into place

The new drive is now ready to install into the HP DV6000 series laptop. There is no need to hook up IDE cables and power cables. The new drive can simply be slid into the HP laptop.

Find the screw from Step 3. Make sure the DVD drive is pressed in all the way. Install the small Phillips head screw in the back of the laptop and tighten by turning clockwise.

Hello i'm having HP PAVILLION DV6000 and OS is

You first remove that device from device manager.
Then restart the pc.
You may check the BIOS menu for that device for any clarification.
After restart since u have removed it the OS will detect the device and install it automatically.
Hope this helped.

Pioneer DVR-112D Burner not showing up

you probably need to reinstall the drivers for it.  what operating system are you running?

for most versions of windows, the first thing to try is to go to control panel, and then run the add new hardware wizard.

if that doesn't work, you may need to install drivers or firmware for the Pioneer Burner:

this link should have what you need, if you want to try updating the drivers or firmware:
