Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional With Servise Pack 2 (e8503040) for PC
Buddy and I try to use video call, either AIM or MSN Live. The video capture is fine on both ends but neither of us can hear the other. Both use XP Pro and both use Microsoft USB web cams.
Oddly, if I use my Vista laptop with built-in webcam, all is fine.
Have you tested the webcam's microphone on your own computer? It is an easy test. You can use any audio program such as Goldwave or the sound recorder found under XP Accessories--Entertainment. Additionally you can open Control Panel, select Sound and Audio Devices. Select the Voice tab.On the bottom right there is a Test hardware button.
Another common problem is that certain software can mute the microphone when launched. You can check this by clicking the Volume icon in the systray. When it opens the window check to see if the mute is clicked anywhere. Uncheck if mute is checked.
Finally, your soundcard manufacturer may have an icon in control panel. An example is RealTek HD Audio Sound effect manager.
You may find a tab identifying the mixer. There is usually a series of adjustments for Mic Volume, Line Volume, and Stereo Mix. Make certain that the Mic Volume is not muted.
