The light is probably the power light which is ok, but from past experience it sounds like the board is dead for one reason or other. Is it still under warranty? If it is take it back to where you got it, with the purchase docket if you have it and talk to them about what you have tested and ask for a replacement. If it is out of warranty, try ebay or use www.staticice.com.au to search for the same motherboard if you want to rebuild the system without having to reload windows.

If this is an OEM HP motherboard, you most likely won't find support on
the Asus website since they don't support OEM motherboards. Asus only
supports retail motherboards. You need to determine which HP/Compaq pc
system this motherboard came installed in, then check the OEM vendors
website to see if XP drivers are available. You won't find them on the
normal system driver page since it was only shipped from HP/Compaq with
Windows Vista installed. One such pc system that used this motherboard
is the Presario SR5019UK. I'm sure there were other pc models that used it as well.
A good place to start is the HP talk forums.

SOURCE: Advanced BIOS setting
I would suggest using the set bios default option on the main screen. This should reset everything to factory defaults.
Be sure to exit saving settings. After that, assuming there's no hardware damage, it should start fine.
Hope this helps. Please remember to rate this information.

A BIOS checksum error can be caused by a nearly flat BIOS battery.
I would replace the BIOS battery first before attempting to upgrading the BIOS.
Some motherboard BIOS firmware is upgraded by running a program that has been copy to a DOS boot disk or the upgrage maybe done from within the BIOS setup. These firmware upgrage and instructions are on the motherboard WEB site, in your case the Compaq/HP WEB site. Make sure you select the upgrade for your model motherboard.
NOTE it is possible that if you make a mistake you could ruin your motherboard, if you are not sure seek help from a computer savy friend.
