Question about Magnavox MDR513H/F7 Player

Open Question

Magnavox HDD/DVD player recorder scans in all the channels except 4 or 5 digital channels WHY

All the analog & digital channels were successfully scanned in (or so I mistakenly thought). I wanted to record a show on the Hallmark channel (I can watch it live on the TV). Tried to set up a recording and the Magnavox recorder couldn't/wouldn't read the channel. Same thing when I wanted to record a PBS 2.3 show. No 2.3??? ALL the other channels are available on the Magnavox recorder. I successfully record shows on my Magnavox all the time. I had not, until recently, wanted to record from PBS 2.3 or Hallmark 33.5. Until I needed to do these recordings I was blissfully unaware of this problem. I did a new channel scan and that fixed the problem. Tonight I wanted to record the comedy channel 61.5 and it no longer exists in my scanned channels?!? So I did another channel scan and now I have the comedy channel again but the PBS 2.3 is again GONE. I didn't check on the Hallmark channel to see if that is AGAIN gone from the Magnavox scanned channels. WHAT is wrong with the Magnavox player/recorder? The connections are all solid. So why isn't the Magnavox scanning in ALL THE CHANNELS that are available to me? Why is it leaving out a few here and there and then when I perform a NEW channel scan it leaves out a different set of digital channels!?!?!!!

I thought about contacting my cable company asking about the 'signal strength' coming into my house but haven't done that yet. When ever I contact them about ANY ISSUE their first response is always 'it must be something I'm doing wrong or they say it is my equipment.' Funny thing is, thus far, it has always turned out to be a problem on their end! Does anyone think this could be a weak signal problem???

SOURCE: I have hooked up my ZV427MG9 Magnavox DVD recorder

Hi, sometimes one also must hook up the Audio with the red & White audio stereo leads as well some HDMI do NOT stream the audio over the HDMI port, and thus one must use the RCA stereo jacks to supply audio to the device.
Some HDMI cables also don't have all the wires through and a change of cable may help, this is rare though.

SOURCE: I cannot record digital when I try to set up my

This is normal for the ZV457MG9 units. The Magnavox ZV457MG9 does not have an analog (NTSC) tuner; additionally there is no digital (ATSC or QAM) tuner either. It will only record on line in (L1) which is a composite input (limited to SD). The HDMI port on the recorder is an HDMI out to TV, not an input. The component video jacks are also only outputs.

The manual for the Magnavox ZV457MG9/F7 is available here: http://download.m4c.magnavox.com/files/z/zv427mg9_f7/zv427mg9_f7_dfu_aen.pdf . The unit was manufactured for Magnavox by Funai; thus another link to the manual is http://www.funai-corp.com/6pdf/om/ZV427MG9.pdf .

I wish that I had better news for you.

(If your DVD/VCR recorder had a tuner, it would record off a coaxial (antenna) cable input. Many DVRs can record off the HD connection (HDMI or component); that may be a better option for replacing this Magnavox unit.)

Is my Magnavox 1T HDD rECORDER COMPABILE WITH cOMCAST cable Box ?

If your Comcast box has a composite output, you'll be able to record SD shows. Use RCA composite video and audio cables between the box and the recorder. You'll have to set the box to the channel you want to record and leave it on. Then set the HDD/DVD unit to record from video input (L1 rear, L2 front) for the appropriate length of time. The manual explains this. The manual is available from Funai who built the unit with the Magnavox name: http://funaiport.com/upload/MAGNAVOX/Manual/MDR537H_EN_OM.pdf . See pages 19 and 42. If your TV and/or cable box only have a limited number of video inputs/outputs, you may need to daisy chain the composite video cables from the cable box to the DVD/HDD unit's video in. Then connect another composite cable from the DVD/HDD video out to the TV.

This Magnavox unit can only read analog (NTSC) cable video signals without a set top box. You will not be able to record a show and then watch another with the cable box.

I hope this helps.

(I know that my cable system's box has a composite video out. So it does work with most of the Comcast boxes. Many of the manuals are available here: http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/cable-tv/cable-box-user-manuals/ )

I have purchased an HDD & DVD Player/Recprder with digital tuner; Serial No: LN1A07350238/8 I have an old console model (some 25 years old) which has a coaxial connection only. As I could not...

You could try coax cable switch.
It will allow you to change from the signal going to the cable receiver and directly to the tv.
You would have to walk over to the tv and physically switch it.
shutting of the cable receiver may help too, while you are watching local channels.
Also, if you get a digital receiver, the digital signals come in much clearer.

Magnavox MDR533HF7 timer programmer records wrong channel sometimes

You have to record some channels manually and you can not use the timer. Since TV went digital the channels are not really on the channel that you see. Where I live channel 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, and so on are really on channel 35 and 45. This tuner has a hard time with these channels because they are not on the station that you see and it does not look like this will be fixed.

Hd recording

If the digital tuner can pick up the HD channels, then I don't see why it can't record them. However some TV channels have blocking on them to prevent recording. If it can't record a channel it will say so with a message, generally.

Since they switched to digital TV, my VCR/DVD player will not record a TV program.

The DR-MV150B has both a digital tuner and analog tuner. Since the digital conversion you more likely have not run a channel scan for the new digital channels. Plugging in a digital tuner would work, but is unnecessary. What you probably have to do is run the 'auto scan' feature through the recorders menu. Hit "Home" button go to the "TV" icon and select "Auto Scan". It will take a few minutes, but recorder will scan for digital channels and memorize them.

Vcr hooked to tv and converter box. Will not record digital chann

The vcr has to be set to channel 3 or 4. The converter box has to set to the channel you want to record the show from and left on during the time that the vcr is recording or you will get no recordings.

I pluged this in & it wil not show up on my tv

You cannot use RF (channel 3 or 4) to see the output of the Magnavox. You need a RF modulator or separate video/S-video and audio inputs. The antenna signal is passed through the 2160 for analog signals.(and digital if you have a converter box or digital tuner)
