SOURCE: restoring .pst files in outlook

The simple way to restore .pst files in outlook is

Choose File-> Import and Export…
Choose Export to a file
Choose Personal Folder File (.pst)
Select the Inbox and press Next (we do the Contacts folder later)
Set the file location to D:\My Documents\My Outlook\Backup\export.pst
Press Finish and you’ll be prompted to set properties for the export.pst file
In the Name field type a descriptive name like "Export June 2004" (yeah, I wrote this guide a long time ago but don’t worry; I still keep it up to date!)
Press OK to start the export
To export the Contacts folder as well repeat step 1 to 4 and this time select the Contacts folder
If the save location is not set to the path you’ve set in step 5 browse to it
Press Finish to export the Contact folder
Close Outlook and copy the exported file to your safe location as described in Backup pst-file

How to Move emails from Outlook mac 2011 to Outlook Windows 2010 ?

Outlook mac archived files cannot be imported directly into windows outlook. Its a default error from Microsoft, as outlook mac supports .olm file format whereas windows outlook support/import only .pst files. So in order to get you outlook mac emails in windows outlook you need to convert .olm files into .pst.

Here is a link with the same issue, might help: Convert Olm file to Pst

How do I easily backup email files in Outlook 2010 to an external hard drive?

Hi,

Open Outlook, click on file in the top left hand side. Select Import and export. Now select export to a file and click next. Now select the file type you want save as (I mainly use a pst file and its the most common) and click next.
Now select which files you want to back up, for example Inbox, send items, contacts etc and click next. Now Click on browse and navigate to the external drive or save it to your desktop and copy the files to the external later on.

You can back up all of your emails this way just change the name of the file from backup to Inbox etc.

Regards.

HI GOOD EVENING I AM UNABLE TO COPY MY MICROSOFT OUTLOOK 2007 PST FILE TO EXTERNAL HARD DISK. AFTER STARTING COPY FEW MINUTES LATER I FACE THE FOLLOWING PROBLUM CANNOT COPY OUTLOOK:DATA ERROR(CYCLIC...

A "CRC" (Cyclic Redundancy Check) is caused by an disk-drive error.

When you write a "block' of data to your disk-drive, a CRC value is calculated, and is also written to the disk. When you try to read that "block" of data, the CRC value is also read from the disk,
and a new CRC is calculated from the data. If the "new" CRC does not match the "old" CRC, then you have a "check" condition -- either the data was not written correctly, or the data could not be read correctly.

Now, did the "check" message refer to the "source" of the copying operation (namely your 'C:' drive) , or the "target"(namely the external drive) ???

Try to copy the PST file to another file on your 'C:' drive.
If you do not see the "check", then it is the external disk-drive that has a problem.
If you do see the "check", then open Outlook, create a new folder,
and copy a group of messages into the new folder. If Outlook reports that one of the messages could not be copied, then the disk-space occupied by that message is faulty, and must be excluded.

Can not copy outlook messages

It looks like your external hard disk in FAT32 system and outlook messages file .PST is more then 4GB.

To know the file system of the Hard Disk right click on the drive select properties.

Check your file system first. FAT32 will not support more than file size of 4GB.

There are 2 options to copy.

1. Split the .PST in to 2 or more outlook data file

or

2. Convert the FAT32 System to NTFS.

To convert from FAT32 to NTFS. go to following link

I would like to backup microsoft outlook (2000) calendar for external storage. Could you tell me how to do this?

You have to find the folder where Outlook save it's files and back it up.
Outlook files have a "pst" extension, so look in your hard disk for *.pst files to find them.

This is from a Microsoft site:
To find your .pst files on your hard disk
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type *.pst.
  3. In the Look in box, select the appropriate drive.
  4. Click Find Now.

Outlook 2007 slow on closing and crashes on open

Your computer might be using caching. Can you tell me how much RAM you have on your computer? If you have 2GB of RAM i would recommend disabling the caching. This slows down the system quiet a bit (since it uses miliseconds instead of nanoseconds). Your computer is as fast as the slowest component.  I would also suggest defragging the drive.
