Try removing the cover, and manually cycling on the controler switch? Does the solenoid click on, next to the humidifier (the unit with the water line running through it, with wires coming out of it)? If it does click on, is water running down the water pad? It doesn't necessarily drain water when it's working correctly. All of the water SHOULD be getting evaporated into the air return duct.

If it's clicking on, but no water is running out, you should check the water supply saddle valve and make sure it wasn't turned off during servicing.

If it's not clicking on, you should test that you are getting voltage (12v-18v DC) to the solenoid. If you're not, check all wiring connections and make sure they're tight. If you still don't get power, you have either a problem with your control unit/humidistat, your DC power supply, or the control board on your furnace. You may need to call a HVAC technician at that point, depending on your comfort level/skill level in that regard.

When you say the solenoid "stays hot" do you mean it's physically hot to the touch? Hotter than the water lines running into it?

If the solenoid is getting hot, it probably has a bad coil, and if you continue to operate it, you will probably burn up your DC power supply.

If you're getting voltage, you have water pressure, and the solenoid is still not opening, replace the solenoid.

SOURCE: HONEYWELL HE260

Unless you are using a current sensing relay or sail switch, you need to get the humidifier power from the blower motor supply so it only operates when the blower is on.

Since you can manually control the humidifier, there is not a fault with the solonoid.

SOURCE: Honeywell HE225 Humidifier will not draw water

Check for 24volts at the valve. Some techs install these so it only comes on when the furnace calls for heat. It should have its own transformer.

SOURCE: I've installed a Honeywell 220A whole house

push sail switch forward by hand to see if that is the problem.
Remove two wires at humidifier and connect them if it starts than it is in wiring, humidistat, or transformer.

No water flow through solenoid

The water flow through the humidifier is limited/controlled by an orifice. This small opening can easily clog. After disassembly use a small wire to clear the debris trapped in the small hole,

Hope this helps?

Water to humidifer won't turn on.

Check if there is power to the solenoid valve, if ther is , then the solenoid is bad and must be replaced. If there is no power could be a bad humidistat or transformer.

After a few hours my Aprilaire 400 makes a constant clicking sound that won't stop. Is it the solenoid?

This is either the solenoid or a loose low voltage wire. Make sure all the wiring connections are tight, if they are the solenoid if bad and will need to be replaced.

Aprilaire 500 water won't stop running down to condensate pump

Hello, sounds like rhe solenoid valve is stuck open. This will keep water flowing through the humidifier even if the Furnace is off. The solenoid valve will have to be replaced.

Humidifier is full of water but the light shows it's empty. Since the humidifier thinks there isn't any water it won't run.

More than likely, the float valve in the top of the water collection bucket is broken or stuck in the DOWN position. Turn the unit OFF & unplug it. Remove the bucket for it's holder and empty any water that's in it. Inspect the float valve to see if it moves freely. Jiggle the arm of the float valve to see if it moves up and down freely. If it doesn't then it's stuck or broken. Hopefully, it's only stuck, because in most cases, purchasing a replacement bucket with the float valve installed is your only option.

Hope this helps you solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

How do I know it is working?

Hello, You can tell if the humidifier is working if you see water flowing into the drain line. Also , when the furnace turns on you should here a click at the solenoid valve on the humidifier, this means that the solenoid is open and letting water into the humidifier.

Water and motor always run on Aprilaire 760, even when furnace is off.

Hope this solves your problem, look for the humidistat, it should be located on cold air return duct near furnace, make sure it is not set in the on position, if it is, then this is why it is staying on, please set humidistat any where from 20 to 35%, never over 40%. If the humidistat is set properly and is still running, you may have a electrical problem, humidifier circuit should only receive power(24 volts) when the indoor blower motor of furnace receives power, also if you have galvanized plumbing in your home, you may have a piece of rust or lime deposit in the humidifier solenoid valve preventing it from closing, turn water off to humidifier and disconnect water supply line entering solenoid valve inspect & clean protector screen. Good luck.

Aprilaire 700 humidifier not adding any humidity

Thanks for your Question,
Sounds to me like you have a calcium build up in the Solenoid, which is restricting flow to the unit for proper operation, you might even have a bit of restriction in the copper line feeding the Solenoid, replacement of the solenoid would probably take care of your problem, one quick tip, in the spring and summer months, its a good idea to shut the water off to the unit, this should make the Solenoid last a little longer, hope this was helpful to ya, please let me know, thanks again,
