I removed the remote and connected the motor direct to the 120V supply. The motor hums but doesn't turn. Same as when the remote was connected. Except the hum gets louder when I increase the speed. Are there other components in the motor housing that could be bad or is the motor the bad?

Well I went further and found the reverse module mounted on the motor housing. The part number is: UC7067rev. I checked the cap which is a 4.0 uF and reads 3.25uF on my fluke meter. That is low but I would think the motor still would turn even if the cap is reading low. Would like to determine if the motor itself is bad but without a diagram not sure how to test. Anyone have a wiring diagram for this setup?

SOURCE: remote controlled ceiling fan

unplug the fan then remove the batteries from the remote then plug the fan back in and, reinstall the batteries; this resets the fan control

SOURCE: Ceiling fan with light and remote stopped working

It's most likely the receiver for the remote (transmitter) -- it's located under the cover at the top of the fan -- will need replacing.

Hampton Bay Chateau Deville with remote stuck in high. Remote works fine for light with dimmer, but will not turn off fan or change speed. Stuck on high.

When you had the batteries out of the remote, did you press all the buttons to be sure one is not stuck? Also, this could be a button failure.

Dimmer not working but the light does come on.

What kind of wall switch do you have? Is it a remote wall switch? You can't use a basic Fan/light control with a remote.

Wiring Question

No, the way the motor speed control works is different from the way a light dims. If you connect it, it might work for a while, but it will either burn up the dimmer or the fan motor.

We have two seperate light switches. One is a dimmer. The fan is currently working off of the dimmer switch. Is this because the red wire should have been hooked up with the power source (Black wire)...

The dimmer normally controls a light which is 100 watts or so. The dimmer is rated for only so much load.It is only a fire hazard if the dimmer is overloaded by a fan and light that draws alot of current. Some fans have a light and 2 pull chains, one for fan speed and another for the light itself. There is usually only one power source for the fan.If it is a split design, then the light can be run off the dimmer, and the fan off of the switch. If you want to vary the fan speed with the dimmer ,make sure it is rated for at least the load rating.

My new fan with light fixture is hooked up but it only works through the pull strings not from my wall dimmer. Can someone please tell me why and what do I need to do to have it work from the wall dimmer....

It depends if the fan and lights are ran for separate control. If only one power line is ran from the fan to the switch location than you are out of luck. You should install a switch instead of a dimmer because a fan is not designed to work with a dimmer. A dimmer works by rapidly turning the power on and off faster than our eyes can detect creating a dimming effect for lights. This is not good for your fan. The strength of the fan speed will be limited by the dimming/power output of the light dimmer.

Dimmer or not?

Are you saying you have a dimmer for the fan light and it does not work, or you do not know if the fan came with a dimmer switch?
Most of these fans have two switches; one is for the fan speed(usually three speed) and the other is for the lights(on -off). Adding a Remote control , which is optional for this unit , will allow for remote speed control(variable or three speed), and light dimmer control. The remote controls can be purchased in your local Home Depot or Lowes store. Hope this helps....

Fan speed too fast

Is there a light switch control or just straight power to the fan? They do sell "Fan" controll switches just like a regular dimmer, but for a fan. If there is just straight power u would still be able to install a remote that could lessen the speed. Even if it is just pull chains. the remote would have three speeds and if u kept the pull chain on low, maybe the low remote speed could work.
