Question about Dell Precision M6300 Mobile Notebook

1 Answer

Dell precision m6300 battery won't charge.

The power meter shows now 30% from 46% on new battery. When I disconnect the charger, the battery discharge icon shows in the Taskbar. When connecting the charger, I have to move the plug about before the icon goes off. However, there is a time delay - I can move the plug then 3 seconds later, the icon goes off. There is some charge to the computer or it would have died many days ago. I tried a new battery and charger without success. I don't recall making any changes to anything before this started.

Thanks for this. The battery is one of 3 new Dell batteries all giving the same result. How do I access the BIOS and use it to analyze the problem? I believe the problem is between the charger and the battery since there is a time delay between moving the plug and the screen brightness changing (and icon showing). I believe the problem is on the board. This time delay is NOT a mechanical problem since the time delay would be very inconsistent. However, the time delay is only the power getting from the charger to the computer; the battery does not seem to charge at all. Quite the conundrum!

    Take a look at this,Dell Support:http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/sy...

Thanks Max. The Microsoft "Power Options" panel recognizes the battery, shows it's on AC power and now down to 28%. The link you kindly provided goes over everything I've done and offers another link to Dell's QuickSet battery meter. However, Dell says my system is not supported - probably because the Ms program does the job. I am at a loss and will have to head for the repair shop before the battery dies!

If you have a multimeter , verify the DC voltage at the laptop plug. It may be a bad charger cord or battery or both.

I took it PCNix in Toronto who fixed it. There was a blown fuse on the motherboard and the power supply has some problem. Seems the Dell looks for a multiplexed signal from the power supply and that was no longer happening.

You say it's a new battery. Is the battery the same EXACT spec? Some aftermarket batteries don't work well with your laptop. The pin-out/connections may be incompatible. That said, in your BIOS is there a "Battery Learning" section.

SOURCE: Dell inspiron 6400 Battery problem

what i would suggest is to check the bios there may be a new flash download on the dell website, my wife has a inspiron 1525, which is plugged in and says not charging, the battery will not go above 0%, but we have had to send it to dell (still under warranty) faulty motherboard. if the bios is up to date, there could be a hardware issue with the battery or motherboard

SOURCE: my dell inspiron battery won't charge. The battery

sounds like a motherboard problem. to isolate it, check the BIOS and look for the battery info and health to see if the battery is recognized by the system. if available, try a spare battery. Updating the BIOS can also help. There are BIOS updates that contain fixes which can help improve battery performance. if all else fails, the motherboard will have to be replaced. Check with Dell support if your laptop is still in warranty.

Dell m5110 laptop won't charge new battery and ac adapter is not recognized in bios

Try another AC cord/charger with the EXACT same specs as original. Is the battery a genuine Dell battery, if not return it? Some aftermarket laptop batteries don't play well with your computer, the pin-out connections aren't correct and MAY be a fire hazard.

Dell inspiron M5030 won't charge, green light is

This is a common problem. It may be that the charger is dammaged. these Dell chargers have a micro thin communication cable in them that tell the charger to charge the battery. this micro thin cable can often break. Its use it to prevent the laptop battery from over charging, but if it breaks or becomed broken inside tha charger cable, then the laptop simply won't get the charge signal and the battery won't charge. If this is the case, then you will need to replace the charger with another Dell charger compatible with your laptop

My inspiron 1545 wont turn on battery and charger are fine can anyone tell what could be wrong

If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Unfortunately it sounds like you have an issue with your motherboard. If you remove the battery and just try to power on the laptop using the AC adapter and it still won't power on then it's probably the motherboard. The power supply circuit (where the AC adapter plugs into) for the motherboard is integrated into the motherboard.
Sorry. If it's still under warranty Dell will replace the motherboard.

Holding down the Func key while powering up, Num lock and Scroll lock flash, caps lock on steady. No Post. Help

If your laptop won't run the diagnostics ( Holding down the Func key while powering up ) then you need to try and isolate the problem. Something is preventing the laptop from performing POST ( power-on self diagnostics ). Try removing the hard disk drive, memory modules, external USB devices.

Low hour, RASCAL 600 has been in clean safe storage with new batteries won't charge, no amp meter reading, no fuel gauge reading, yet charger itself has red and green light showing. If and when the...

The green light on your charger indicates a full charge but you know thats not right since you didn't charge the batteries when they were in storage they have dropped so low the charger cannot detect them and provide a charge. The batteries will need to be replaced with new ones. Charge before use and charge for at least 20 days to get them operating at 100% now you will have to use it for those 20 days to get the batteries used to charging charge every night when you go to bed and unplug when you get up in the morning. If you do have to leave the chair for a week or so put up fully charged and charge once a week overnight. If you put the chair in storage again disconnect the batteries from the chair and store with a full charge. Hope this helps you

Battery is not charging.

Ifthe laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be wornout. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cyclesand will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up atall. ORThe battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected thebattery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. Ifthe battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to bereplaced. Whenyou connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED lightup? If not then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's powersocket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DCplug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltageshould be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on thebottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that isprinted on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK thenconnect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/batterycharging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's powersocket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position thisLED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a drysolder joint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but itrequires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket andrepair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

Power meter says the battery is charged to 95% but when I un plug it the screen goes blank and it needs to be rebooted

Ok, just because the battery is 95% charged doesn't mean that it has 95% of the charge it's supposed to have. When a battery ages it holds less and less of a charge so it can have just a tiny bit of power and show as 95%. You can check the health of the battery on this Dell by removing the battery, pressing and holding the status button. The more lights that light the worse the battery is. Dell recommends a new one if 5 or more light.

Also, check the battery charge by just pressing without holding. This time the MORE lights the better. It may be that powermeter is lying.
