Make sure the chain stitch thread is threaded exactly as it should be, make doubly sure the thread comes off the bobbin vertically and runs through all eyes smoothly. Any faults in the threading causes extra tension at the needle despite what the tension is set on.
If this is not the cause then the needle depth and the looper timing needs checking.

SOURCE: needle thread does not pick up bobbin thread it

clean it using a can of air to make sure there is not any fabric or dust caught in the under area. the needle could be bent slighly just replace it.
these are the two things I look for when this happens with my machine. needle is the one most offten causing the problem.

SOURCE: skip stitch

The three most obvious causes (other than that of the machine possibly being slightly out of time) are:

1) Too small of a needle size - increase the size.

2) A needle that has a flaw / defect - change the needle.

3) Needle not inserted correctly, either not pushed all the way up into the needle bar, or not installed facing the correct place. On this machine, the small "scarf" in the needle (an indent just above the eye) shouldface the right side of the machine.

If you have put a new needle in then the chances are the machine has gone out of time, you can either take it in to the repair shop or you can contact me and I will attach timing instructions drivewithken@blueyonder.co.uk

My machine keeps skipping stitches. I have had it werviced three times in the last n6 months, by two different repairmen, and it works for awhile, then starts backnup again. Any suggestions?

Usually, the first thing to try when a machine skips stitches is install a brand new needle. Also, be sure you are using the right type of needle for the fabric and thread you are using, ie ball point needle for knits, sharp needle for wovens, leather needle for thick fabrics/denim/leather... Needles do wear out with use, so changing needles frequently could be helpful. (Needles are the least expensive solution to most sewing problems!)

You can also try removing the upper thread. ALWAYS raise the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct.

My pfaff hobbymatic 875 is skipping thread on the bobbin side

Be sure to use a brand new needle. If the needle is bent or damaged, it will frequently skip stitches. Also, if you are using the incorrect needle for the fabric & thread you are using, it will skip stitches, ie a ball point needle on woven fabric.

Skipping stitches

Skipped stitches
1. A bent or dull needle
2. The wrong needle for your fabric
knit fabrics require a jersey or ballpoint tip. Most wovens do well with a universal tip, and specialty fibers, like leather or metallic, usually require specific needles.
3. Incorrect machine threading
4. Unbalanced needle thread tension
Start by making relatively small changes and run a test stitch to evaluate the impact. If you need to adjust the tension dial using woven cotton fabric with good quality all-purpose thread and a new needle
5.check the needle is inserted correctly. The needle needs to be pushed as far up the needle shaft as possible. It's easy to insert the needle half way, clamp it down and think it is inserted correctly.
the flat part of the needle should be positioned towards the back. If the needle is not inserted correctly, it will not be able to pull up the bobbin thread and will cause skipped stitches.
6. If the suggestions don't help then it is time for a tune-up.

I am sewing a knit fabric on my Lily 540 and it is skipping stitches like crazy. I have tried adjusting the tension and the stitch length with no success. seem to always have a hard time with getting even...

It sounds like you may be using the wrong needle. For knit fabric you need a ball point needle in order for it to sew correctly. A regular sharp type needle can cause the stitches to skip. Also make sure you have the right size for the type of fabric. Lighter weight fabric needs smaller size needle and thicker types need bigger sized needles.

Also make sure you have the right presser foot and the right pressure on the presser foot to get nice even stitches. A roller foot helps when sewing knit fabrics.
