I would guess the battery is done. How old is it? How many charge/ discharge cycles? Do you leave it in when using on AC at home?

SOURCE: XPS M1330 issue -- laptop won't charge battery

As he said it could be the battery so do test that but if it isnt its most likely a problem with the power socket itself as he said, and i do know that some computer repair companies can fix this sort of thing if you want to go to them for help

SOURCE: time-of-day clock stopped on dell xps m1330

When you alter the Date and Time and next time you boot up again the date and time has reverted back to some other time, this indicated the BIOS battery is flat and it needs to be replaced.
To fix this problem, replace the BIOS battery and change the date and Time setting.

you can remove this password by removing the bios battery. remove the cap where the ram goes... and you will have very easy access to the board. unplog the cable that goes from the bios battery to the board (make sure the pc is off and main battery is out.) plug back in the cable and boot your pc.

Dell XPS M1330 battery not detected!

Hi,
Normally the life time of a laptop battery is 300 cycles. that is 300 discharges and charges. Since your laptop is almost 2 years old, the battery could be at the end of its life time, and again depends on how often you use your laptop in a day. Better goto a service center or get a similar battery from any of your friends just to make sure it is not a motherboard issue. Then you can think about which part you've to replace.
Please come back and rate my solution if it turns to be helpful fro you, or also if you need more clarifications. Thnx

My Dell xps m1330 won't power on , the light on the power supply is on until I plug it into the laptop an try to turn it on, then the power supply light goes out.

try removing the battery, plug the ac adapter, check if it turns on. if not it may be the ac adapter/motherboard might be bad.

Dell xps m1330, turns off unexpectedly. i have changed setting in control panel for battery options to turn off never if it is plugged in. it still shuts off randomly.

It could be overheating, and then shutting itself down, to prevent damage.

Restart, and enter SETUP mode, and choose the "System Health Info" setting, to find the internal temperatures.

Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power.
Remove the battery.
Buy a can of compressed air.
Follow the directions to keep the can "vertical",
and give a "blow-job" of compressed air into every port and access-door that you can find on the laptop.

You could be surprised at how much "dust" (and dog-hair) that the blow-job removes.

DELL XPS M1330 battery is not detected.

Boot to the BIOS and see if the battery status shows normally there. If it does, try uninstalling and reinstalling the quickset utility.

If the battery status doesn't show normally in BIOS then you will likely need to replace the battery.

Dell XPS M1330 doesn't recognize original power cord after 2 yrs

Check your mains adapter plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.

If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.
This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. I suggest you get a quote first.

Remove the battery, and unplug to turn it completely off. then plug everything back in and restart if you still have a black screen it could be your LCD going out. which is a very expensive replacement part.
