So, when i turn my PSP on, it says my firmware is 4.00 and I cannot upgrade to 3.50 o anything but all the games work. It was like this when I first bought it new. Also I have this weird portal like when you have Games, Music, Video, Picture, Web and Settings but I have also MyPSP which has PSPPaint, calendar, alarm clock, infrared sender, PSX Games download(TM)and stuff, but my neighbour's 3.50 doesn't have.
Why I have this odd firmware and why isn't it public yet?
I bought my PSP from the local PlayJapan.

Almost all new PSP games right now that are out requires you to have the latest PSP official firmware or the latest PSP custom firmware that was created by some third party firmware developer, so if you want to continue and be able to play those games check what firmware they require and you now have the option to go ahead and perform the upgrade or not.
You have the option of upgrading your psp firmware when:
You purchase a game that requires a new firmware
You manually upgrade the firmware
To manually upgrade the firmware, go to the settings section on the psp. Once there, look the selection that says something like "Firmware upgrade" and press it. If there is a new firmware, it will automatically install it (*Note* You must have a wireless connection in order to upgrade *Note*) If you need further assistance, please reply to this post and I will help you the best I can. Thank you for using FixYa! =)
if you have downloaded the firmware from the internet, that is really not advisable. it would be best to go the nearest gaming zone for updating firmware.
some firmware are not compatible and not updated. downgrade your firmware to a more stable firmware.
If you want to upgrade, you must downgrade first. Any custom firmware upgrade cannot take place unless your PSP is firmware 1.5 or lower.
Chances are that you have a different firmware. If you want to get a custom firmware and downgrade, it is a very complex process that I do NOT recommend if you do not know what you are doing. It is very easy to ruin your PSP during the process. If you are still interested, research "Pandora's Battery" and other downgraders. It is a very long process too long to be explained here, and there are many guides online.
If you miraculously have a PSP that is firmware 1.5, I recommend getting firmware 5.00 m33-4 instead, as it is much more stable. Don't attempt anything unless you understand the consequences of possibly ruining your PSP.
hi your previous psp version is 3.80 m33 if yes your using custom firmware that why you can play game to your memory stick the problem is you upgrade your psp firmware to sony official firmware 5.01 you reinstall your firwmware again using custom firmware like 5.00 m33-3 cfw below with m33 or OE
Sounds like you had homebrew or similar firmware to play images (copied games) from your memory stick. Now that you have upgraded your firmware to an official Sony release these are no longer supported.
