I checked the breaker and the outlet and I still do not have electrical power to the microwave. Could there be a reset somewhere or a blown fuse.

  • tpuck1963 Jan 19, 2009

I was hoping it was something that I could fix, but this is what I thought.

I am unfamiliar with how that microwave gets it's power... if it plugs into the oven itself... you need to check the fuses on the oven... the are generally located in the panel direct behind the burners on he stove... or the top panel lifts up to reveal fuses there.

If your microwave oven doesn't seem to work at all, check these:

Fuses
Door switch
Fuses Usually, when your microwave oven doesn't work it all, the internal fuse (thermal fuse) is blown. This fuse protects both you and the oven. When it blows, you need to have a qualified appliance repair technician replace it.

Door switch If the fuse isn't the problem, check the door hooks and the door-release button. When these are broken, the door switch doesn't activate, so the oven can't work.

It should be on a dedicated circuit in your breaker panel.
Check that and re-post your results.
An internal power supply may have also failed, but checking the outlet is the first (easiest) thing to rule out.

You didnt tell us much so ill just throw general advice at you

Fuses Usually, when your microwave oven doesn't work it all, the internal fuse (thermal fuse) is blown. This fuse protects both you and the oven. When it blows, you need to have a qualified appliance repair technician replace it.

Door switch If the fuse isn't the problem, check the door hooks and the door-release button. When these are broken, the door switch doesn't activate, so the oven can't work.

Sometimes theres a fuse inside that you can easyly replace, its few inches into the microwave following the power cord.

There may still be a fuse that you can replace, but if your not fimiliar with a fuse I suggest you let a professional handle it.

Some microwaves have a easyly replaceable fuse, some dont.

have a look at these instructions
    http://www.partselect.com/repair.aspx?ap...

if your going to check for it, always unplug before going in.

Check the breaker box for tripped breakers. This will either be in the basement or somewhere in apartment depending on where you live.

If no breakers are tripped try an extension cord to another outlet and if it works get outlet serviced at original location.

Sometimes the breakers don't look tripped even though they are. Reset breaker for kitchen then try again. ALso is the microwave plugged into an outlet in the stove itself or right into the wall.

Try an extension cord to another outlet to disprove bad outlet.

Why double filter on Maytag Microwave

If your range hood or microwave recirculates back in to the room.

Both filters are required. The mesh filter catches the grease & air particulate. The carbon filter should be changed regularly www.HoodFilterFactory.com ( avoid range fires that spread quickly) & clears the recirculated air from smoke, odors, & airborne particulate.

With yours venting to the outside, you ONLY need the mesh filter. These filters should be cleaned regularly ( Avoid mentioned hazard) & should be replaced when you can no longer clean them enough to see through them when holding up to the light.

Good Luck

New maytag power shuts off and comes back in half hour

Depending on the model you may need a 15 or even up to a 20 amp circuit to operate the microwave. Check the installation instructions to be sure. What is most likely happening is the circuit in your home is not powerful enough to run the load of the microwave oven. If this is the case it could be dangerous. I would strongly recommend you have an expert examine the house wiring prior to starting the unit again.

Microwave now taking longer to heat same cup of water - safe?

Actually if there is a larger than normal power demand in your area from a cold spell and the input line voltage drops even 5 volts from 120V to 115V it can make a huge difference in the performance of your microwave. It can also be signs of a weak high voltage capacitor or a failing high voltage diode. Neither of those are an excess espense repair.
If it is working normally but taking up to 30 seconds longer to get the results you had in the past check the input power first. I would also check the fuse holder inside the chasis to see if it had weak contacts and not grasping the fuse very well. If it looks like it has been hot or the fuse is a solder type and you see signs of melted solder there is a problem with either the fuse or fuse holder (this can act like a resistor and drop the input power voltage.)

Microwave no longer heats, makes more noise than it did when it was heating. Microwave is a Maytag, model # MMV4205BAW. Thanks.

Sounds like the magnetron has failed. There are some high voltage circuits that feed the magnetron and you can potentially get hurt if you don't know what you are doing. Would recommend you have it serviced by a professional if you want it fixed, otherwise look for a new one since the cost of repair can come close to the price of a new microwave oven.
