Question about Asrock K7S41GX Socket A SIS741GX FSB333 Motherboard

1 Answer

Turns off in a fraction of a second

My computer is about 3 years old, and has always worked fine, but after moving the computer won't stay on. When I hit the power button, it immediately turns off, staying on just long enough to get the fans spinning. I don't get any beeps. After I turn in on once, it won't turn back on for a while.

I thought it might be the CPU overheating, so I swapped it out along with the heat sink, but get the same problem. I've tried resetting all connections, strip out all extra components, but the problem persists.

This answer is correct. 4/12 divided by 2/2= 1/3
The reciprocal of 2/2 is 2/2
Then you multiply straight across and reduce to get 1/3

I hope that you can use the warrantee.

Otherwize, it must be possible to repair it with a fried comfortable with electronic because the problem is not permanent. This kind of problem is usually an old capacitor or a bad connection (soldering).
It would be important to check if changing the ambiant temperature fixes the problem. (I.E. move it to the seller for 2h and try..)

Set is 7 years old - it turns off intermintently

Ours used to do that - and then we moved it to another state with us. Since the move it doesn't shut itself off anymore. I suspect that the problem was dirt and dust inside which got knocked loose in the move and the shutdown was due to thermal limits being exceeded. You may want to try vacuuming or blowing out the dust inside if you feel comfortable opening up the unit.

Black screen

Sounds like your screen is being switched to "Power Save" mode due to inactivity. This should switch back when the mouse is moved. This can take several seconds on a laptop. You can remove this "Power Save" by right clicking anywhere on blank desktop, select "Properties", "Screen Saver" and "Power Settings" then select "Always On" for the monitor.

I have a Princeton VL1918 LCD monitor. Need help

Hello,

You have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of he monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix he problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictues and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping. If you don't see any bad capacitors then the next thing would be bad CFL (backlight tubes) in the screen itself. If it is that then the monitor needs to be replaced because of the tech skills needed to replace then. I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

Desktop screen won't stay on

how old is your screen, if its older than 2-3 years mostly its gone and you need to replace it. If its in warranty then contact dell customer support. Life of screen can be around 3 years after that i may not work.
Another test is to connect it to some other computer and see if its working, then we can focus on some output issue from the CPU.

If your LCD is less then a year old, I would suggest to contact the manufacturers to have it fix under warranty.
The failure on your LCD could be a defective back light inverter or a power supply not providing enough power to the back light inverter board.
Let me know if you require further assistance.
