If it is not an Epson cartridge, it may well not accept it. Many newer printers are employing features to detect and reject refilled and aftermarket cartridges. This is to protect the manufacturer's investment in the printer itself, as they sell them well below their actual cost in the knowledge that they will recoup the cost in ink sales. If it IS a Epson cartridge, they have had some bad ones surface. You should be able to return it to the retailer for exchange. If not, contact Epson and they should be able to help you.

Epson and many other manufacturers are Chipping the Ink cartridges, they sell more ink that way. Many cheap generics either are not chipped properly or are just faulty, I even got a faulty cartridge from Epson. I got myself a CISS system with a Waste Ink Container. I have since saved TONS of money and will never change another cartridge.
