Question about Samsung HLP4663W 46" Rear Projection HDTV

Samsung 46 DLP TV says "check cable" on all digital inputs.

TV was working fine. Switched HDMI from Playstation to cable box and a blue screen saying "Check signal cable" stayed on. Tried switching back to playstation with no change. HDMI no longer selectable as a source after power cycle. Composite cable doesnt work either.

TV has been unplugged for over 2 hours and retried with same affect. HDMI cable has been replaced. Cable box has been replaced. Cable box and HDMI cable currently in use on new TV.

    Is this the part?

    http://tigerdirect.partsearch.com/Part/S...

Would this affect only the input modules? The menu etc all seem to work fine. In other words, whatever is generated by the TV itself is displaying correctly.

Its my understanding that the HDMI and component interfaces bypass the tuner completely.

With all respect for others' opinions I do not think you should replace the digital board ( http://tigerdirect...). without testing it, you risk to waste $200 or more on the wrong part.

When the D board is faulty the TV usually does not start up, and stays in safe mode.

I think the TV should be tested by a technician, you probably need to replace one of the capacitors located near to the HDMI connectors. They are easy to blow if you unplug and plug back HDMI cables when tv, or connected devices are on.

Call Samsung, using the phone number listed on the owner manual, and ask if a warranty extension is available. In case you will get an extra warranty, and cost is usually less than an average single repair.

Its the problem of the input socket of the tv where you insert the cable that socket is loose and had to be soldered internally by opening the unit of tv.as also try connecting any other external device in the socket and confirm the fault before replacing the socket.

HDMI goes straight into the digital main pcb and this should fix the issue. You should contact samsung customer support and make sure there is not a software/firmware fix for this issue/other HDMI issue

also i know walmart has a 32in sony bravia on special for 599 i own one its a very amazing tv with tons of inputs if you were in need of alot and my solution dosent fix your problem and you dont wish to buy a $300 part you may also be able to find this tv for 499 in some stores

  • chris ciraldo Jan 19, 2009

    try reseting the tv also
The service menu is pretty well hidden behind a sequence of key presses on your remote. Here’s how to get in there:

    1. Turn your system off.

    2. Press the following buttons individually with a short pause between each: Mute-1-8-2-Power.

The Television will turn on into the service menu. Once in there look in the Options menu for the lamp hours and counter reset. As for the other settings, I’ve never messed with them, and I’d caution against playing around there!

this tv set has had many problems dont try buying all the parts it could be cheaper just getting a new tv i hope this helps

This unit appears to be affected by a possible software conflict.Disconnect the A/C input from the wall for an hour or so tho reset system. If this does not work I will provide you with main bord part number.

To provide you with the proper main board number and proper diagonsis I will need the software version number on the side of the unit. There is a sticker on the left side of this unit with the model, serial and version numbers.

It appears you have a defective main board. This part is not servicable.Part # BP94-02065A with a cost of about $300.00 depending on wher you can order one from. That price is the price us Samsung service centers pay.

    Albert Vasquez Jan 19, 2009

I`ve double checked my previous response on this unit and the main digital board indeed is the culprit to this problem.Your component and HDMI inputs both are processed through the main digital board.I am curious though.Do you have analog tuner functions and composite video(yellow input), menu volume bar ,and do the buttons, and remote respond? This information will give us a definite.

  • Albert Vasquez
    Albert Vasquez Jan 19, 2009

Yes it will affect the 1080I inputs for sure.I work on these things all day long and as an Authorized Samsung Service center I would suspect the main digital board. This is only if the analog tuner is working.

  • Albert Vasquez
    Albert Vasquez Jan 19, 2009

    Yes that is the part.

  • Albert Vasquez
    Albert Vasquez Jan 19, 2009

Yes the HDMI bypasses the tuner. You don`t have a tuner problem. The tuner has nothing to do with HDMI.As I asked eairler do you have tuner function. The tuner does not bypass the digital board, nor does the, composite video,s-video,component, or VGA,all video runs through the digital board. The menu and all on screen display are generated through the analog board but from a diffrent part.It has a path all its own.

blue screen means no video signal, if the source is on hdmi ensure the cable is rca or in simple audio video jacks which u will have to connect in the dvi input of the tv reason is hdmi means high definition interface and transmits by hdcp like the data of an internet meaning its digital platform which the tv can only process thru the dvi inputs or component y,p,b

I have seen this happen quite a bit. For some reason the input (cable jack) works loose from the board. I would try running your source signal (cable/dish) to another input on your tv...such as S Video/HDMI/Composite or whatever you have available.

Sounds like a problem with source recognition. Could have a problem with input coming into the tv such as cable connection problem, loose wires, etc. Try reseting the cable box and removing and reinstalling all of the cables in the back and the cable box.

The Samsung Television has 3 HDMI inputs, You would connect an HDMI cable from the Cable box to your television and go into a menu on the television to select the appropriate HDMI input.

New cable boxes should have the HDMI connection.

Most Flat screen televisions I've seen have an input button on the television itself. Pushing it should allow you to switch between inputs.

Most likely the digital board will have to be replaced. Not a cheap part, so you might concider using the component inputs for now if too expensive.
